Newsday, Matthews, Cameron uncritically quoted Giuliani on his knowledge of Kerik

In reports on the possible indictment of former New York Police Commissioner Bernard
Kerik on charges relating to a company suspected of having ties to organized
crime, Newsday, MSNBC's Hardball, and Fox News' Special Report all uncritically aired
statements by Rudy Giuliani suggesting he had been unaware of Kerik's
relationship with Interstate Industrial Corp. However, in April 2006, Giuliani
reportedly "told a grand jury that the former city commissioner of investigation
remembered briefing him on some aspects of Mr. Kerik's relationship to the
company in question."

The headline of a Newsday

article on Bill O'Reilly's controversial remarks about a Harlem restaurant run by African-Americans asserted, "O'Reilly

lashes out at CNN over misquoted report," but the article provided no examples of a "misquot[ation]," nor did it quote

O'Reilly claiming to have been "misquoted." The article also stated that "Mediamatters.org

released a partial transcript"

of O'Reilly's comments. In fact, Media Matters provided the relevant

transcript and audio clip of O'Reilly's remarks, which included the full context of

his statements.

Newsday repeated misleading claim from 2006 NY Times article about Clinton's contributions from "health care industry"

A Newsday article on Sen. Hillary
Clinton's health care reform proposal repeated an assertion made in a 2006
New York Times article that the
health care "industry contributed more than $850,000 to her re-election
campaign, the second highest level of contributions to any senator." But
Newsday did not note that the
number includes donations from individual health care
professionals, such as nurses and
doctors, and neither newspaper reported that if only health care PAC donations
were considered -- that is, donations from the actual health care "industry" --
Clinton drops
off the list of top 25 congressional
recipients of health
care industry money entirely.

Media outlets uncritically reported Giuliani's misquotation of Clinton's view of free markets

CBSNews.com and Newsday
uncritically reported Rudy Giuliani's assertion during the May 15 Republican presidential debate that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said "that the unfettered free market is
the most disastrous thing in modern America." In fact, Clinton said she agreed
with the following
quote, which she included in her book It Takes a Village: "The unfettered free market has been
the most radically disruptive force in American life in the last
generation." Explaining further, Clinton said "that the market is the driving force behind our
prosperity ... but that it cannot be permitted
just to run roughshod over people's lives as well."
