WABC* says Imus' explanation of controversial comments "makes sense" -- then why did Warner Wolf give a different one?

On his radio show, host Don Imus explained controversial comments he'd made the previous day about Adam "Pacman" Jones, who, it was noted, is African American, by asserting, "My point was that there's no reason to arrest this kid six times. He's a football player. He's a lovely kid. He's out having fun. He doesn't need to be arrested six -- he gets arrested times. Well, we know why he gets arrested six times." But, sportscaster Warner Wolf, who was part of both conversations, offered a different explanation: "[A]nybody that listens to the show knows that whether it's a politician or an athlete or anyone, someone who's obviously guilty, you joke and say, 'Well, it must have been racism.' I mean, it's a joke. I mean, we all know that 'Pacman' is no model citizen. The guy's been arrested and suspended. So it's a joke." Notwithstanding the apparent conflict in their explanations, WABC's* Phil Boyce reportedly said of Imus' explanation: "When I first heard the comment I thought that's probably what he meant, but I called him and he explained and it made sense to me. I said, 'Let's make sure you explain it the next time you're on the air,' and he did a very good job."

Ignoring McCain's inaction, AP claimed NC GOP "ignored McCain's repeated calls to kill" controversial ad

The AP reported that Sen. John McCain's campaign "promises to condemn any race-based political appeals" and, referring to a controversial television ad by the North Carolina state Republican Party attacking Sen. Barack Obama, asserted that McCain made "repeated calls to kill the ad." But according to the party's chairwoman, at no point did McCain call her directly and ask that she not run the ad, and McCain reportedly said that "he wouldn't have run the GOP ad, 'but I am not going to referee, I am just going to run my own campaign.' "

MSNBC's Buchanan called Obama "exotic," said "[h]e's like the guys in the Harvard faculty lounge" who "don't know anything about their country"

MSNBC political analyst Pat Buchanan said of the Republican strategy against Sen. Barack Obama: "[T]hey're going to use his associations. And they're going to use his statements, his elitism. They're going to use the fact he's exotic."

Guest host on Beck suggests if Obama elected, political correctness will kill comedy: "[E]veryone will be so scared of saying anything"

On Glenn Beck, guest host Michael Graham discussed political correctness in comedy with comedian Nick DiPaolo. Asking DiPaolo if his "comedian friends" thought that "if we have a President Obama, comedy will be dead," Graham said, "[E]veryone will be so scared of saying anything," and added: "You'll be scared to order blackened red fish, because you're afraid that an African-American or Native American will beat the crap out of you for it."

Matthews: Jewish voters "have one key concern," Israel; "[I]f you're African-American ... [y]ou care about certain programs of the federal government"

Discussing "the Catholic vote" on Hardball, Chris Matthews said: "It isn't like a vote like, for example, if you're a Jewish voter probably you care about Israel, that's a safe bet. You have one key concern. ... But clearly, if you're African-American, you care about civil rights. You care about certain programs of the federal government. That's a generalization, but probably true."

Talking with the Media Research Center's Brent Bozell, Neal Boortz said: "I'm on 'Media Morons' today ... because I said yesterday on the air that I would make a lousy Mexican because I was trying to use one of those floor buffers and it tossed me around ... when any Mexican worth his salt would be able to do that without getting hurt."

Asserting that "millions of Americans of all colors are fed up with race-baiters and accusations of racism," Bill O'Reilly identified those he deemed to be "race hustlers" and "race-baiters" -- among them Media Matters for America -- and declared: "You better watch it.
Discussing Sen. Barack Obama's speech addressing race and controversial comments by his former pastor, Jeremiah Wright, Pat Buchanan wrote in his syndicated column: "Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American." Buchanan then asserted that "no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans," adding: "We hear the grievances.
O'Reilly on Media Matters: "Any of the presidential candidates who can deport those swine -- I'm voting for them"

O'Reilly attacked as "far-left loon" caller who asked if he would apologize for "lynching party" comment

Discussing his previous comments about Michelle Obama, Bill O'Reilly stated that "[t]he word 'lynching' was used because I said it quite clearly. I'm not going to go on some lynching party against Michelle Obama; that's ridiculous." However, O'Reilly had said: "I don't want to go on a lynching party against Michelle Obama unless there's evidence, hard facts, that say this is how the woman really feels. If that's how she really feels -- that America is a bad country or a flawed nation, whatever -- then that's legit. We'll track it down." O'Reilly also attacked a caller who asked him if he owed "Michelle Obama an apology for that disrespectful lynching analogy," calling him a "far-left loon."

Tucker Carlson echoed Kaus, VDARE contributor on Michelle Obama: "I think she's got a chip on her shoulder"

Discussing recent comments by Michelle Obama, Tucker Carlson said: "I have thought from Day One that Michelle Obama, impressive as she is, clearly intelligent, very handsome, self-possessed -- I think that she's got a chip on her shoulder." Similarly, Slate.com blogger Mickey Kaus wrote of Michelle Obama: "For whatever reason, she sure seems to have a non-trivial chip on her shoulder and it's not a winning quality." Additionally, referring to a February 16 Newsweek profile, VDARE.com contributor Steve Sailer wrote that Michelle Obama "sounds like she's got a log-sized chip on her shoulder from lucking into Princeton due to affirmative action."

Ignoring contrary polling, WSJ claimed "Mr. McCain might enter a race versus Mr. Obama with an advantage among Hispanic voters"
