Gibson to caller: "You just like [Obama] because he's ... like you and you want to see one of you up there"

Reacting to a caller who spoke favorably of Sen. Barack Obama, John Gibson said: "You don't know what Barack Obama stands for. You just like him because he's -- he's -- he's like you and you want to see one of you up there, and you don't care what he stands for." The caller responded: "He's not one of me just because he's a black guy or something like that. That doesn't make him one of me. He's standing for him, not me."

John Gibson responded to criticism of his comments the previous day mocking the death of actor Heath Ledger, and said "Did I mock him?" After Gibson's producer pointed out that Gibson had in fact mocked Ledger's death, Gibson replied, laughing, "Oh, that. Well," later adding, "There's no point in passing up a good joke."

Gibson defended his comments about race of school shooter, attacked "Soros-backed" Media Matters

On his radio
show, John Gibson said:
"Media Matters for
America, a Soros-backed, Hillary Clinton-backed media hit-job
website is after me
today because of what I said last night, and they are calling me a racist for what I said about
this [school shooting]
at SuccessTech in Cleveland."
In fact, the item documenting Gibson's comments did not characterize him
or his comments as racist. Also, philanthropist
George Soros has never given money to Media
Matters, either directly or through another organization, nor is Media
Matters funded by or affiliated with any candidate or
political party.

Gibson knew school shooter was white because "[b]lack shooters don't" shoot themselves; "they shoot and move on"

On his radio show, while discussing an incident in which a student shot four
people at his Cleveland high school before killing
himself, John Gibson asserted
that "I know the shooter was white. I knew it as soon as he shot himself.
Hip-hoppers don't do that. They shoot and move on to shoot again."

Gibson aired edited Limbaugh clip to "prove" Media Matters had edited Limbaugh clip

Discussing
Rush Limbaugh's
recent description of service members who advocate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq as
"phony soldiers," John Gibson asserted on his radio show: "Rush was
specifically talking about a particular one, Jesse MacBeth, who had pled guilty
in court to lying about even being in Iraq." To support this claim,
Gibson aired a clip in which Limbaugh purported to air the "entire"
segment in question. In fact, that
segment did not include a full 1 minute and 35 seconds of the
1 minute and 50 second discussion that occurred between Limbaugh's original
"phony soldiers" comment and his subsequent reference to MacBeth.

Fox News' John Gibson's "interpretation" of Clinton comment: "Hillary makes a deal with Al Qaeda"

Fox News' John Gibson stated that it "appears" a comment Sen. Hillary Rodham
Clinton made at an August 23 campaign event about the potential consequences of
another terrorist attack "was sending this signal, as they say, to Al Qaeda,
that it would, it would not be smart to attack the United States of
America before the election." Gibson went on to
assert that "Hillary makes a deal with Al Qaeda."

On his radio show, John Gibson accused The
Daily Show host Jon Stewart of a "purposeful misunderstanding" over
comments Gibson and the program's executive producer, "Angry Rich," made mocking
Stewart for emotional remarks he made on his show shortly after the September
11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Gibson criticized Stewart for "think[ing] ... that
he is a sacred cow and cannot, you know, be subject to an elbow now and
then."

Gibson: "The war on Gibson is real" and "it's pursued every day"

On his August 14 radio show, Fox News' John Gibson stated that he and his show's
executive producer, "Angry Rich," are "being attacked on a liberal website" --
Media Matters for America --
because "[w]e played some audio of Jon Stewart crying after 9-11." Gibson also
said that Media Matters "attacked
me and 'Angry Rich' for an unfortunate turn of the phrase last week," referring
to the comment "Angry Rich" made that John Edwards "whored his wife's cancer as
a fundraising gimmick."

On his
radio show, John Gibson and his executive producer mocked Jon Stewart for emotional remarks he made shortly after 9-11. While airing a clip of
Stewart's remarks, Gibson mimicked Stewart and sarcastically interjected,
"Oh, God, Jon.
Just tell me it's not true," and, "Oh! That's
great. I'm --
God, I'm touched."
