Ignoring polling, The Note blamed Reid for ensuring "the return of polarized Iraq politics"

ABC News' The Note claimed that
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, in favoring legislation calling for troop
withdrawal timelines, "virtually ensured the return of polarized
Iraq politics -- and is giving the
left the showdown (take two) it craves." But polling repeatedly shows that a
significant majority of the country supports withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq in
-- at most -- a timeframe that comports with what Reid has
suggested.

Media heaped praise on Huckabee's "sexual dig" at Edwards

Media figures and outlets heaped praise on Mike
Huckabee's comment, during the May 15 Republican presidential debate,
that "[w]e've had a Congress that's spent money like John
Edwards at a beauty shop," a reference to reports that former Sen. John
Edwards spent $800 of campaign money (which Edwards said was reimbursed) on two
haircuts. ABC News' The Note, as well as The
Politico's Mike Allen called the line an "instant
classic," while The Politico's
Jonathan Martin predicted that it "will dominate the news coverage in the
days ahead."

Meet the new Note, same as the old Note

In ABC's
The Note, senior
political reporter Rick Klein wrote that "Democrats will still need to
move toward the Republican position, unless they want to shut down [Iraq] war funding." In doing so, Klein suggested that unless congressional Democrats compromise and send President Bush a bill
he finds acceptable, they will be responsible for cutting off
funding to the troops, rather than
Bush being responsible.

ABC's The Note baselessly suggested double standard in media's treatment of Pelosi and Gingrich

ABC News' The Note predicted that prior to the midterm elections, the
"(liberal) Old Media" will "[g]lowingly profile" House
Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi but "fail to describe her as 'ultra
liberal' or 'an extreme liberal,' which would mirror the way
[former House Speaker Newt] Gingrich was painted twelve years ago." But a
Media Matters examination of
coverage found that in 1994, Gingrich was treated in a similar manner to the way Pelosi is treated now.

ABC's The Note reported Hastert's plan of action to protect congressional pages -- without noting it includes no Democrats

The Note, ABC News' political newsletter, reported that Speaker of the House J. Dennis Hastert would meet with Rep. John Shimkus, chairman of the House Page Board, and his staff to "review ways to protect pages while they are serving in the nation's Capitol" in the wake of the revelations of former Rep. Mark Foley's allegedly inappropriate email communications with a congressional page, but it did not note the absence of Democrats in Hastert's plans.

Why are the media depicting GOP support for unpopular war as a political winner?

As Senate Democrats debate two proposals regarding U.S. withdrawal from Iraq, news outlets have gone out of their way to frame the Democratic differences over how soon to redeploy forces as politically favorable for the Republicans while not reporting that the Democrats' position is shared by a majority of Americans, that the war supported by Republicans is deeply unpopular with the American public, and that the GOP's alternative plan appears to involve remaining in Iraq indefinitely.

Flawed Wash. Post/ABC News poll suggested no link between NSA data collection and warrantless spying -- despite Post's own contrary report

A Washington Post/ABC News poll on the National Security Agency program to collect phone call records of tens of millions of United States residents found that 63 percent of respondents found the program acceptable. The poll question claimed that the NSA is not "listening to or recording the conversations" captured by the data collection program, but a Post article reported that the program is related to NSA's warrantless domestic eavesdropping program.

When criticizing the use of "selective facts," The Note should have some facts of its own

ABCNews.com's The Note criticized New York Times columnist Paul Krugman for using "selective facts" to say that John McCain "is not a maverick, a moderate, nor a straight talker." However, The Note offered no facts to counter Krugman's argument.

ABC's Gibson used polls renounced by ABC's polling director to speculate that Bush might get a "pretty good size boost" in polls due to SOTU

ABC's Charles Gibson said that President Bush may get a "pretty good size boost in his polls" after the State of the Union address, even though ABC News polling director Gary Langer had dismissed such polls as a highly unreliable indicator of the entire country's view of the speech because those who listen or watch the speech, by and large, support the president already.
