Time's James Carney wrote: "As any Republican will tell you, the National Journal ranked [Sen. Barack] Obama the most liberal member of the Senate." But Carney did not note that the National Journal's rankings are based on subjective criteria.

Time's Halperin printed Boehner's accusation against Obama without providing context showing it was false

Time's Mark Halperin reported on his blog that House Minority Leader John Boehner "use[d]" Sen. Barack Obama's interview with The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg to "accuse Obama of calling Israel a 'constant sore.' " Halperin reported that the Obama campaign called Boehner's comments "a dishonest and ridiculous distortion" but did not note that the Obama campaign was right or provide the context for Obama's comment.

Time cited Mitchell in purporting to examine Clinton's role in Northern Ireland peace process, but not Mitchell's affirmation of Clinton's statements

A Time magazine article claimed that "several diplomatic sources" who worked on the Northern Ireland peace talks "say that the women's groups" with whom Hillary Clinton engaged during the process "were not nearly as pivotal to the process as Hillary's backers maintain" and that former Sen. George Mitchell was "much more involved in those efforts." But the article failed to mention that Mitchell has said that Clinton's statements regarding her role in the peace process "are generally accurate to the extent that they have been relayed to me."

Joe Klein falsely suggested Obama's focus on patriotism is new

In his Time column, Joe Klein claimed that Sen. Barack Obama is aware of the "potential problem" of his "patriotism," as "patriotism replaced hope as a theme of his [March 4] concession speech [in Texas]." As evidence, Klein wrote that Obama "echoed John McCain in citing Abraham Lincoln, and called America 'the last best hope on Earth.' " Klein then falsely claimed: "That was the only 'hope' he mentioned -- a fascinating calibration." In fact, Obama mentioned "hope" at other points in the speech, and he has repeatedly used Lincoln's "the last best hope on Earth" line during his presidential campaign.

During an Obama campaign conference call, a recording of which was posted on Time's Swampland, Jay Newton-Small stated: "I just wanted to ask about your pitch to superdelegates these days and if that's changed at all. I mean, are you talking to them at all about the concerns that the Clintons might yet again burn down the Democratic Party?"

Time's Scherer ignored McCain flip-flops on immigration and taxes, did not note his "remarkably vague" plan for Iraq

Time's Michael Scherer wrote that Sen. John McCain has "a set of issues that appeal to the political center," including immigration and President Bush's tax cuts, but did not note that McCain has reversed his position on immigration and his rationale for opposing the tax cuts. Scherer also asserted without explanation that the Democratic presidential candidates have been "remarkably vague" about "what to do next" concerning the war in Iraq, but did not mention that McCain has been vague about how long he believes U.S. forces should remain in Iraq, the number of troops that will be stationed in Iraq for the next 10 or 20 years, and whether the United States will have permanent bases there and a security agreement like it does with Japan and South Korea.

Time's Gibbs repeated falsehood that Bill Clinton referred to Obama's candidacy as a "fairy tale"

In a Time article, Nancy Gibbs wrote that Bill Clinton "hacked away at the 'fairy tale' that is [Barack] Obama's candidacy." In fact, Clinton did not refer to Obama or his campaign as a "fairy tale"; rather, as New York Times reporter Mark Leibovich wrote, Clinton "was referring specifically to the perception that Mr. Obama was totally pure in his opposition to the Iraq war."

Media failed to resolve question of which members of Congress Freedom's Watch ads are targeting

In reports on a recent advertisement buy by Freedom's Watch in support of the Iraq
war, media reports have
failed to resolve the question of which members of Congress the ad buys are
targeting, despite the apparent newsworthiness of the issue. For instance,
The Washington Post suggested that the ad
campaign
is
an
attack
on
Democrats,
a
suggestion repeated
by
Time's Karen Tumulty; other reports have not even mentioned the issue; while still others have asserted that the ads target both Democrats and Republicans. However, according to analyses by war opponents, the buys
target mainly Republicans, a charge Freedom's Watch called "propaganda by our
enemies."
