In an April 2 syndicated column titled “Obama's Dimestore 'Mein Kampf,' ” Ann Coulter wrote of Sen. Barack Obama's 1995 memoir, Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance: “Has anybody read this book? Inasmuch as the book reveals Obama to be a flabbergasting lunatic, I gather the answer is no. Obama is about to be our next president: You might want to take a peek. If only people had read 'Mein Kampf' ...” Mein Kampf, or “My Struggle” as translated from German, is the 1925 autobiography of Adolf Hitler and an exposition on National Socialist political theory, the ideological foundation of the Nazi Party.
Media Matters for America has documented numerous appearances made by Coulter on NBC-affiliated networks; she is regularly invited back despite an extensive pattern of offensive comments and inflammatory rhetoric, including on NBC and affiliated networks. Less than 24 hours after she repeatedly referred to Obama as “B. Hussein Obama” and “President Hussein” on the February 13 edition of Fox News' Your World, Coulter appeared on the February 14 edition of MSNBC Live. During the program, MSNBC highlighted remarks Coulter made in a February 8 speech to the Young America's Foundation with on-screen text that read, “COULTER: OBAMA WOULDN'T BE RUNNING IF HE WERE NOT HALF BLACK.” Coulter referred to Obama as “B. Hussein Obama” during the speech and asserted, “His strongest selling point is that he is one of the least dangerous people I know named Hussein.” As the blog Think Progress noted, Coulter went on to say: “Other than that, Barack's really been kind of coasting on his record, since his first big accomplishment of being born half-black. I keep hearing people say, 'Oh, Obama could never be elected because he's half-black. You know, 'cause we're just such a racist country.' What are they talking about? He wouldn't be running for president if he weren't half-black. He'd be [Sen.] Dick Durbin [D-IL] with less experience.” Less than one month later, Coulter appeared on the March 6 broadcast of MSNBC Live to discuss presidential primaries and referred to Obama as “B. Hussein Obama.” Asked why she emphasized Obama's middle name, Coulter responded: “Because I think it's funny.”
Other conservative pundits have made Hitler references when talking about Obama. As Media Matters noted, on the February 11 broadcast of Fox News Radio's Tom Sullivan Show, host Tom Sullivan aired what he called a “side-by side comparison” of a Hitler speech and an Obama speech. On the February 22 edition of CNN Headline News' Glenn Beck, National Review Online editor-at-large Jonah Goldberg compared Obama to Hitler and former President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
From Coulter's April 2 column, “Obama's Dimestore 'Mein Kampf' ”:
If characters from “The Hills” were to emote about race, I imagine it would sound like B. Hussein Obama's autobiography, “Dreams From My Father.”
