But like previous, corporate media outlets that tried to give birth to the GOP-friendly meme, the Times can't actually find anybody who's claiming the oil industry's spill is Obama's fault, or that the government's response is just like the federal ineptitude that followed Hurricane Katrina.
Here's the headline from the Times' Obama-hating blog, Top of the Ticket:
White House slammed for oil spill -- Obama's Katrina?
Note the nifty question mark. i.e. The Times is just asking the question, that's all. And that's really the dead give-away, because as I noted previously, when the Beltway first tried to spread that political attack, and yes, it was the press corps, not right-wing talkers like Rush Limbaugh, that give birth to the “Obama's Katrina” line:
Reporters and pundits last week couldn't find independent experts on disaster or emergency response who criticized the government's actions in the Gulf of Mexico. Reporters and pundits couldn't even find Republican members of Congress to blast Obama and his team. So instead, the press just decided to do that on its own and pretend it was news.
You'll note that in its blog post the Times does quote Democrat strategist James Carville who recently expressed concern that the Obama administration is “risking everything by this ”go along with BP" strategy." And with each passing day it seems critics on the left are voicing displeasure with the government's response to the BP disaster. But do any of those people claim the spill is “Obama's Katrina”? Not that I've seen. But that doesn't stop the LA Times from pretending otherwise.
Again, it's simply a phrase that the press loves. And even though polling has shown Americans don't buy that blame game, outlets like the LA Times seem anxious to keep it alive.
Behold your liberal media!
