Online, cbsnews.com pushes the rather pointless New York Daily News screed penned by Fox News contributor Andrea Tanraros, who rolled out a torrent of insults to condemn First Lady Michelle's Obama's summer vacation in Spain. Why CBS News thinks that kind of right-wing name-calling is significant is a bit puzzling. (A `winger insults Obama = news??) Worse, CBS simply presents Tantaros' critique as sound and legitimate.

But as Media Matters noted yesterday, Tantaros' analysis about how much money the Fist Lady's trip will cost, and that she should be frugal the way George and Laura Bush were when they occupied the White House, is just dopey.

Fact: The Bush's spent nearly $10 million in taxpayer money flying back and forth to their estate in Crawford, Texas, and the Bush, Sr.'s seaside compound in Kennebunkport, ME., where the Fist Family retreated for vacations. The Obama trip to Spain reportedly cost $73,000. But CBS forgot to report that contrast.
