Glenn Beck informed his viewers today that President Obama recently played basketball with NBA star LeBron James, a sure sign that the president is out of touch, right?

Except, this wasn't as if the President just had a celebrity over for a pickup game of basketball. As Media Matters previously discussed, the event was not simply for entertainment:

The presidential pickup game, which was in front of an audience of wounded veterans and participants in a White House mentoring program, was closed to the media.

At the same time he's making this accusation, Glenn Beck is preparing for his 8/28 rally, proceeds of which will benefit the Special Operations Warrior Foundation nonprofit group. The very same rally where the NRA and Sarah Palin are scheduled to attend (despite Beck's claims that the events won't be political) and Beck has promoted by saying “I expect a miracle.”

In all likelihood, Beck knows better about why President Obama was playing basketball with famous NBA players, but he already had a template in mind and massaged the reality to fit in.
