Fox News VP says network will cover Beck's 8/28 rally “as a news event”

In an August 17 Mediaite.com article, Fox News vice president Bill Shine commented on the network's plans for Glenn Beck's 8/28 DC rally, stating: “FOX News has nothing to do with the rally - we will cover it as a news event alongside other news throughout that day.”

Earlier today, Beck told his radio listeners that Fox News won't be carrying his rally, and Fox News colleague Greta Van Susteren wrote that she thinks Beck “should move his event.” Fox News has received criticism in the past for its promotions and coverage of conservative rallies.

Beck regularly discusses and promotes his rally on his Fox News show. FoxNews.com's Beck show page features promotions for the rally (“On August 28, 2010 come be a part of history by joining Glenn at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial”).

The Washington Post noted today that “Social activists and civil rights leaders, among them the Rev. Al Sharpton, are planning marches and demonstrations -- including the unveiling of a nearly four-story-tall original sculpture on the Mall -- on Aug. 28 to coincide with” the Beck rally.
