Why does the WSJ's Taranto think he's better than everyone else?

Oh brother. This 'debate' about NYC's Islamic community center just gets dopier and dopier.

On Fox News last night, the WSJ's James Taranto announced that liberals favor the mosque because a majority of Americans are against it. i.e. Arrogant libs are always out of touch:

See, if the majority opposes your point of view that means you're arrogant and out of touch.

Flashback [emphasis added]:

Opposition among Americans to the war in Iraq has reached a new high, with only about a third of respondents saying they favor it, according to a poll released Monday. Just 35 percent of 1,033 adults polled say they favor the war in Iraq; 61 percent say they oppose it -- the highest opposition noted in any CNN poll since the conflict began more than three years ago.

If I'm not mistaken, that 61 percent from 2006 is almost exactly the same percentage of people who say they oppose the construction of the mosque today. But of course, in 2006 conservatives such as Taranto supported the unpopular war in Iraq. Conservatives like Taranto were in the minority and gee, they just thought they were better than everyone else.
