In a video posted to his personal YouTube page, NRATV host Colion Noir attacked Kim Kardashian West’s support for National Gun Violence Awareness Day by baselessly claiming she has “several mental illnesses” including “PTSD.”

Noir’s video was a direct response to an open letter Kardashian West posted on her website on June 2 in support of National Gun Violence Awareness Day. In her letter, Kardashian West pledged to wear “orange to show my support for stricter gun control laws” and expressed her disbelief that President Donald Trump signed a bill “revoking a regulation … that would have added 75,000 names of people with registered mental illnesses to a national background check database.” In February, Trump repealed a Social Security Administration (SSA) regulation that barred approximately 75,000 beneficiaries who had been adjudicated as having severe mental illness from owning guns. The National Rifle Association (NRA) championed the legislation with the false claim the SSA regulation prohibited gun ownership for people who merely need help with their finances. 

Kardashian West closed her letter by reiterating that she is not against gun ownership entirely, adding that she understands the need for self-protection after she was robbed at gunpoint in Paris. 

Noir hosts a program on NRATV, the NRA's news outlet, and also serves as a commentator for the gun organization. He frequently offers inflammatory commentary on the gun violence issue, including once telling the parents of the victims of a high-profile shooting to not “become so emotional” in response to the tragedy.

In his June 9 video, Noir called Kardashian West’s letter “disgustingly elitist, narcissistic, misleading, [and] flaming hot cheeto garbage." He went on to slam Kardashian West’s outrage at Trump’s decision to revoke the Obama-era regulation by repeating NRA's false claim that the regulation barred gun ownership for people who “simply need help with their personal finances,” and claimed she has “several mental illnesses,” including “PTSD” after being robbed at gunpoint. Noir rhetorically asked Kardashian West how she would like her name added to the list of people who cannot own guns:

COLION NOIR (HOST): In her unquenchable lust for attention, Kim Kardashian led the charge for Everytown [for Gun Safety] by releasing an open letter begging for more gun control. Kim, I don’t have a problem with you having an opinion on guns. It's a free country. If you want to fetishize gun violence awareness by posting a half-naked video of yourself in an orange sweatshirt, more power to you, boo boo. ... But I have to call you out on this disgustingly elitist, narcissistic, misleading, flaming hot cheeto garbage of an open letter you wrote. I have to admit, you’re the best spokesperson for this issue because you have a massive audience of mindless, superficial drones at your beck and call. But you’re also the worst spokesperson because your knowledge on the issue doesn’t go beyond “like, guns are bad, OK?” And you have a massive audience of mindless, superficial drones at your beck and call.

NOIR: Kim, let’s be real. You have a book of selfies. You are the epitome of a narcissist, which, last I checked, narcissistic personality disorder is a mental illness. Not to mention your self-admitted dealings with anxiety and the PTSD you suffered from being robbed at gunpoint. My dear, you have several mental illnesses. So should we make your name number 75,001 of people who should not be allowed to own guns? Then again, you are an elitist of the highest order, so I’m sure you’d consider yourself an exception.

Kardashian West reportedly sought counseling to deal with the traumatic aftermath of being robbed at gunpoint last year, but she never said that she had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder. The federal prohibition on gun ownership -- which the SSA regulation comported to -- requires an individual be “adjudicated as” having severe mental illness or to have been “committed to any mental institution.” Noir offered no evidence that Kardashian West meets those criteria.

This isn’t the first time NRA has gone after Kardashian West. On October 3, after Kardashian West -- who has previously called for Congress to take action on gun violence -- was robbed at gunpoint in Paris, the NRA mocked her on social media. The next day, the organization called her an “anti-gun zealot” in a write-up of the crime in its magazine America’s First Freedom. NRATV host Cam Edwards has also accused Kardashian West of hypocrisy, saying that she “get rid of her armed security” if she’s going to advocate for gun safety laws.
