In an indication of how reckless and conspiratorial Sean Hannity’s Trump-boosting Fox News program has become, America’s best known conspiracy theorist, Alex Jones, now routinely heaps praise on Hannity, cheering that his show sounds like The Alex Jones Show and praising Hannity for pushing toxic conspiracy theories, such as those about the murder of Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich.

Like Hannity, Jones -- who is the progenitor of the so-called 9/11 truth movement and has spread conspiracy theories about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, the Las Vegas massacre, and other tragedies -- is a sycophantic devotee of President Donald Trump’s.

Over the past year, Hannity and Jones have both focused on offering flailing defenses of Trump’s unpopular presidency, making it no surprise that Hannity would eventually catch Jones’ eye and become a routine subject of The Alex Jones Show.

Since June, Jones has praised Hannity as “one of the only real journalists left on broadcast and cable television” and happily noted that “the entire evil globalist system that’s anti-human and wants a world where humans are obsolete hates” him. After Hannity called for investigations into high-level officials of the previous administration, Jones said it was “very powerful to see Sean Hannity telling it like it is.” Jones claims that other Fox programming -- with the exception of Lou Dobbs’ Fox Business show -- is part of an anti-Trump conspiracy, saying that at Fox, “only Hannity is still fighting” and calling his show the “pinhole” that is saving Trump from total isolation.

For his part, Hannity sided with Jones after Jones called on NBC to release the full footage of his interview with NBC host Megyn Kelly. According to Jones, Hannity also called him in 2016 to tell him he was doing a “great job” and to say “we appreciate you.”

What seems to please Jones most about Hannity is that Hannity reminds him of himself. In August, Jones announced that “The Sean Hannity Show is now The Alex Jones Show.” And after The Washington Post’s Erik Wemple picked up on parallels between Jones and Hannity, Jones said on his show that “The Washington Post has demonized him saying he’s becoming Alex Jones, that’s good.”

Jones says the reason for the parallels is that both men get their information from the same or similar sources. During his August 21 broadcast, Jones called Hannity “the new Alex Jones” and described supposed meetings between Hannity and unnamed “high level” officials, saying that those officials tell Hannity to listen to what Jones is saying, because Jones knows about “black budget, black ops, globalism, C.O.G.,” referring to continuity of government. Jones has also said that “suddenly Sean Hannity is saying the exact words, the exact facts” that Jones spouts because Hannity gets information from high-level administration officials.

Jones is especially a fan of two specific conspiracy theories promoted by Hannity: that there is an ongoing attempt to overthrow the Trump presidency and that the murder of Seth Rich absolves Trump against claims of campaign collusion with Russia.

One of the most frequently repeated claims on The Alex Jones Show, dating to the early months of the Trump presidency, is that America is on the brink of a civil war, with leftist forces poised to depose Trump. Hannity echoed these claims in June, albeit calling it a “soft coup,” whereas Jones frequently fearmongers about the prospect of mass violence when talking about the subject. Jones was nonetheless appreciative of the “soft coup” claim, taking credit for initially pushing similar claims and saying that his “biggest victory” is that Hannity and others are “saying there’s a C.O.G. plan to overthrow the president. There’s a coup against the election. There’s a coup against the American people.”

Jones has also praised Hannity’s shameful promotion of conspiracy theories about Rich, who police believe was murdered in July 2016 in a botched robbery attempt in Washington, D.C. Conspiracy theorists, most prominently Hannity, seized on Rich’s employment with the Democratic National Committee in an attempt to discredit official accounts that hacked DNC emails were stolen by forces affiliated with the Kremlin. While advertisers left Hannity over his disgusting exploitation of the Rich murder, Jones has defended the Fox News host, complaining that “they have headlines out there that I’m hatefully attacking the family, and so is Sean Hannity, for even questioning this. Now it’s almost like we killed Seth Rich.” During other shows, Jones claimed that Hannity was merely “investigating reasonable murder investigations” and called Hannity’s inquiries “very legitimate.”

Jones, who claims to have a personal relationship with Trump and other officials in his administration, also calls the Trump-Hannity relationship a “major bromance going on forever.” During an August show, Jones called Hannity “one of the most important people in America now” because Trump “religiously watches” Hannity’s show, and he urged his supporters to “lobby” Hannity “to keep hammering the truth of the planned coup.” In June, Jones claimed that Hannity “talks to President Trump two or three times a day, sometimes at length.”

Jones: At Fox News, “only Hannity is still fighting.” Discussing Trump’s pardon of racist former Sheriff Joe Arpaio, Jones claimed that after becoming aware of Arpaio’s criminal conviction via Infowars, Trump called Hannity to ask him to cover the story. Jones added that hosts at Fox News are under pressure to not cover stories like Arpaio’s and that “only Hannity is still fighting”:

ALEX JONES (HOST): Arpaio’s coming on exclusively next hour -- I didn’t even ask for this; the guy’s so honorable. He’s doing Hannity second because -- I’m not going to give you the secrets here, but obviously Arpaio was told by somebody that called him where he learned about it. And it’s [Infowars Washington correspondent] Dr. [Jerome] Corsi writing the articles, and it’s Matt Drudge picked them up, and the president saw it in Matt Drudge’s Twitter feed and then said, “Is this true? I haven’t even heard of this on Fox.” And he called Hannity up and said, “Why aren’t you covering this?” And it’s not that Hannity’s bad. Fox doesn’t want this on. They are threatening everybody. Jones praised “very powerful” Hannity’s call for investigations into progressive leaders. After playing a clip of Hannity calling for investigations into former Obama administration officials and Hillary Clinton, Jones said, “Very powerful to see Sean Hannity telling it like it is, and Sean Hannity is one of the few shows that President Trump still watches. Jones: Hannity is the “pinhole” saving Trump from attempts to “isolate” him. Jones criticized Fox News, which he said has been “wrecked” except for “Sean Hannity and a few other hosts,” before saying, “They want to get rid of Hannity because they know the president is so isolated now, the pinhole he’s got is Sean Hannity. But we fired up the bat signal, and Hannity’s doing the right thing, doing his own research, his own intel”:

Jones: Hannity isn’t “perfect,” but “the entire evil globalist system that’s anti-human and wants a world where humans are obsolete hates” him. Discussing an appearance by Trump’s son Eric on Hannity’s show, Jones praised host and guest for drawing the ire of the “anti-human” globalist system and said the men “really do want prosperity”:

Jones commiserated with Hannity -- “one of the only real journalists left on broadcast and cable television” -- about their baseless claims that interviews they granted to major news figures were deceptively edited. Hannity devoted a segment on his Fox News show to calling on NBC’s Megyn Kelly to release the full footage from her controversial interview with Jones after Jones claimed the final interview that aired on Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly was deceptively edited. During his June 20 broadcast, Jones said, “Hannity’s right. He got interviewed by Ted Koppel and said that Ted edited it together to make him look like an idiot,” referring to an interview Hannity was upset about that aired on CBS Sunday Morning in which Ted Koppel told Hannity he was bad for America:

ALEX JONES (HOST): Hannity’s right. He got interviewed by Ted Koppel and said that Ted edited it together to make him look like an idiot. Another guy that can think on his feet better than almost anybody, Sean Hannity. That was edited, remember a few months ago, to be fake. And it’s the same thing, so Hannity has said release it.

Jones: Hannity called me to say we're doing a “great job” and that “he appreciates us.” During a period in August 2016 where Hannity was heavily criticized for his Trump boosterism, Jones said on his show that Hannity “did reach out to us, he said, ‘Great job, we appreciate you, I’m trying my best’”:

ALEX JONES (HOST): And I tell you, they got the new Fox News director for [Roger] Ailes, he was on this morning going, “Oh it’s true, Hillary’s going to win by 12 points” -- he’s this real nellie guy -- “and don’t listen to others, these unhealthy polls.” He was -- I mean, they are really --

JOE BIGGS: A psy-op.

JONES: They had to take Fox down, though, so that they couldn’t challenge it.

BIGGS: Well yeah, if you start watching Fox now you start seeing they’re starting to lean more toward Clinton. Every time you hear these guys, except for Sean Hannity, like it’s all like --

JONES: By the way, Hannity -- well I’m not going to get Hannity in trouble, but he did reach out to us, he said, “Great job, we appreciate you, I’m trying my best.” They’re threatening to fire him right now, so he reached out to us and said he appreciates us. Jones is seeing increasing parallels between his claims and what Hannity says on his show

Jones: “High level” people who meet with Hannity are not allowed to give him classified information so instead tell him to listen to Alex Jones and take what Jones says “word for word.” Jones described meetings between Hannity and unnamed “high level” officials and said that those officials tell Hannity to listen to what Jones is saying, because Jones knows about “black budget, black ops, globalism, [continuity of government].” “Black budget” and “black ops” typically refer to covert actions taken by a government, while “C.O.G.” -- or continuity of government -- refers to contingency plans to keep the government in operation following a crisis, a process Jones claims outside forces would nefariously exploit. During his comments on his August 21 show, Jones also said, “Hannity’s talented, super hard-working, great guy. The fact that he’s the new Alex Jones and bigger than I am in some respects, wonderful, wonderful”:

ALEX JONES (HOST): We are the talking point that’s getting picked up by everybody -- Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, everybody. I’m not saying that to brag; I’ve known this for about six, seven years. The enemy knows it and has figured it out and is trying to shut all them down now to get at me, OK? But the thing is it’s not just like I made these talking points up. I’ve studied black budget, black ops, globalism, C.O.G., all these things, so I understand it. And people high-level go, “No, listen to this guy; he’s got it right.” Folks that can’t tell Sean Hannity classified stuff, they just go: “Alex Jones.” And Sean Hannity in these meetings is like, “Alex Jones, the conspiracy guy?” This happened about six months ago, he goes, “Yeah,” he goes, “Really?” “Yeah, basically you take it word for word.” Ask Hannity. I mean, I was talking to folks that were in those meetings with him. Ha ha.

But the point -- that’s why suddenly he saw -- at the DNC he saw [Infowars host David] Knight, it was about eight months ago, and was like, “I really like you guys now, keep up the good work.” Because nobody's perfect. I used to dislike people I like now. We all change, we all grow. Hannity’s talented, super hard-working, great guy. Jones: Hannity is sharing “the exact words, the exact facts” as me because he gets his information from “high-level folks.” While discussing the prospect of a violent conflict in the U.S. and a supposed plot to have Trump assassinated, Jones said that Hannity’s language now mirrors his, explaining this phenomenon by saying, “Hannity’s never had people fill his teleprompter. He’s working with high-level folks because people now know this is real”:

ALEX JONES (HOST): I know what they’re going to do because I already knew what the plan was. Most of it’s public. The only thing new is they want to kill Trump. But first they’ve got to kill him in your minds. If they really get his poll numbers down, then they’ve got to kill him using a right-winger or some nut that they claim was mad at Trump for something. You can see how it’s going to be scripted. Or they are going to poison him and say he had a stroke. And then -- so they can fight over the power, “Oh, we don’t know if he’s going to come out of it or not,” they’ve just got him at the Naval Center or wherever, drugged up. This is happening now and of course you know the president’s security people are watching -- they know. They’re not getting this from me -- they know. They just tune in because it’s the one place you can really get what’s going on.

That’s why suddenly Sean Hannity is saying the exact words, the exact facts. Because they create transcripts -- patriots in the government go, “This is dead on.” Hannity’s never had people fill his teleprompter. He’s working with high-level folks because people now know this is real.

Alex Jones: “The Washington Post has demonized [Hannity], saying he’s becoming Alex Jones. That’s good.” After frequent guest (and now Infowars contributor) Roger Stone said, “It’s heartening to watch Sean Hannity, who finally figured out who the deep state is,” while also adding that Hannity needs to get his own “schtick,” Jones responded by praising Hannity for echoing him and said, “The Washington Post has demonized him, saying he’s becoming Alex Jones. That’s good”:

Jones celebrated Hannity for adopting his claim that Trump is under imminent threat of a coup attempt

Jones praised Hannity and others for promoting his conspiracy theory that Democrats are planning to overthrow Trump. Describing a scenario involving the overthrow of Trump and subsequent elections being overseen by the “federalized Democrat-run Homeland Security,” Jones took credit for pushing the claim first before praising Hannity, Fox Business’ Lou Dobbs, and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich for advancing similar theories: 

ALEX JONES (HOST): First, let’s play a boil-down of the last month of Sean Hannity and Lou Dobbs and others saying point-blank there’s a clear and present danger and an ongoing plan to overthrow the president. And then of course The Washington Post came out and said, “Oh, Hannity is in Alex Jones’ territory, he’s a kook, he’s a loon.” OK, you guys are in major newspapers and magazines, but they are elite publications, point-blank saying we got our people in the deep state, it’s time to overthrow Trump. Suddenly. Physically. We’re talking serious crime they’re talking about here. And then they plan to shut down the independent media, they plan to go and say all the Republicans that got elected in the last Congress are going to be removed or subject to a new election that federalized Democrat-run Homeland Security oversees. We’ll be like Venezuela. We’ll never have a real election again. This is happening. I said it first because I knew we had to say it, and now you notice they’re in the news saying it. Jones: “My biggest victory” is that Sean Hannity and others are saying there is a “plan to overthrow the president.” Jones praised Hannity, as well as Dobbs and Limbaugh, for being “loyal to the country,” and said, “Now my biggest victory, your biggest victory” is that those people are “saying there’s a [continuity of government] plan to overthrow the president, here’s a coup against the election, there’s a coup against the American people”:

ALEX JONES (HOST): It sounds hard core and extreme to say they’re planning to overthrow Trump, it sounds hard core and extreme to say they’ve got [continuity of government] ready. But we’ve got to go ahead and say it because it’s the truth. And now my biggest victory, your biggest victory, is we have Sean Hannity, we have Lou Dobbs, we have all the other people that are still hard core real conservatives -- they’re not perfect, but they are loyal to the country -- from Limbaugh to you name it saying there’s a C.O.G. plan to overthrow the president, there’s a coup against the election, there’s a coup against the American people. So we have to force this out in the open. I know you know they’re planning martial law, and civil emergencies, and Black Lives Matter riots, and killing cops everywhere, and then seizing control of the government and then basically killing Trump. Jones: “Sean Hannity is currently the main leader of the resistance against the globalists outside of Trump and then of course myself.” Jones lavished praise on Hannity after the latter was criticized for claiming on his Fox News show that there is a “soft coup” attempt presently happening against Trump. Jones said during his June 22 broadcast that “no one in media talks to President Trump more than Sean Hannity. Sean Hannity talks to President Trump two or three times a day, sometimes at length.” Jones said that Hannity “word for word quoted what I’ve said” and warned Hannity to get his “security contingencies ready” to avoid being assassinated in the opening hours of a violent overthrow attempt:

ALEX JONES (HOST): I’ve got to give credit where credit’s due. The mainstream media will attack Hannity for this, but it doesn’t matter, that will just make him have more viewers and more supporters, though News Corp. has been very close to firing him. I talked to witnesses a month ago, when the reports came out that he was going to be fired, who talked to Hannity at Fox News, where he’d been chewed out for hours by the general counsel, and they had said you keep doing what you’re doing, you’re fired.

But he has so much support, and it’s so obvious that Fox News is sinking after the Democrat coup there that they have not gotten rid of him yet. But the fact is I know from the White House that no one in media talks to President Trump more than Sean Hannity. Sean Hannity talks to President Trump two or three times a day, sometimes at length. And I’ll just tell you right now, Sean Hannity is currently the main leader of the resistance against the globalists outside of Trump and then of course myself, but I am more grass-roots, and I’m more frontline, being demonized, being attacked. It’s my job to get the intel out, to take the main attack, to draw the enemy fire, so that we understand exactly what we’re dealing with.

But I want to give credit where credit is due. He has the most courage of anybody in the media and his head’s on the chopping block because of it. But he’s held on. And then on Tuesday night, he came out -- and The Washington Post obviously pointed this out -- word for word quoted what I’ve said. But he wasn’t plagiarizing me. Headline: “Fox News’s Sean Hannity is encroaching on Alex Jones territory.” He was quoting what the Defense Department and the president is telling him. Because what I’ve told you is what’s happening. So Hannity’s not even getting this from me; he’s getting this from reality.

JONES: This is unprecedented, ladies and gentlemen. This is a soft coup that is meant to then exponentially, as the ambient temperature’s turned up, escalate into a civil emergency, martial law, the assassination of Trump -- they’re not going to let him live; they’re not going to let him defend himself. And then a paramilitary move by fifth columns inside the intelligence agencies, the media, government against the main target leadership of the resistance. And you can bet your bottom dollar it’s Donald Trump, it’s Ron Paul, it’s Rand Paul, it’s Sean Hannity, it’s Alex Jones, it’s Rush Limbaugh, it’s Matt Drudge. That list of names are deader than a hammer in the first hours of this if they launch it. So everybody should have their security contingencies ready and should know that you’re all personally in your Alamo positions, or your 300 positions, whatever you want to call it, because we have to make that stand as long as possible if they move. This is not a joke, folks; this is not a game. They’ll set a nuke off in D.C. if they have to to bring in this. Jones praised Hannity for pushing conspiracy theories about the murder of DNC staffer Seth Rich

Jones on criticism of him and Hannity for promoting conspiracy theories about the murder of Seth Rich: “Now it’s almost like we killed Seth Rich.” After baselessly connecting another criminal investigation to the one involving the murder of Rich, Jones complained that he and Hannity were heavily criticized for how they covered the story:

ALEX JONES (HOST): This on top of them finding laptops shoved in behind some books in a crevice, and the Capitol Police investigated, and it’s the master files to the DNC and of course we know who was in control of that -- his name’s Seth Rich. He got gunned down, shot in the back. That’s an unsolved murder, but now in America that’s called being a conspiracy theorist. They have headlines out there that I’m hatefully attacking the family, and so is Sean Hannity, for even questioning this. Now it’s almost like we killed Seth Rich. Jones complained that “they want to fire Sean Hannity and people for investigating reasonable murder investigations,” in apparent reference to Hannity’s promotion of Seth Rich conspiracy theories. While complaining that comedian Kathy Griffin had not yet been fired by CNN for participating in a photo shoot where she held a facsimile of a decapitated Trump head, Jones said that “they want to fire Sean Hannity and people for investigating reasonable murder investigations”:

ALEX JONES (HOST): We want [Kathy Griffin] fired. They want to fire Sean Hannity and people for investigating reasonable murder investigations. They want to fire [Bill] O’Reilly for settling stuff 10 years ago, and I’m not even defending him. But then this woman and this whole culture -- they’re saying kill Trump, basically; many are actually saying it. And none of them get in trouble. Jones praised Hannity’s “very legitimate” inquiry into the Seth Rich murder. Jones praised Hannity for “boldly” supporting “land rights” -- an apparent reference to Hannity’s support of lawless rancher Cliven Bundy during an armed standoff with the federal government -- before promoting several conspiracy theories about Rich, including claiming he worked with WikiLeaks and saying Hannity’s inquiry into the murder was “very legitimate”:

ALEX JONES (HOST): Then it’s Sean Hannity. Sean Hannity boldly stood up for land rights, Second Amendment, national sovereignty, you name it. He did all that. And then he looked into the Seth Rich case that clearly stinks to high heaven. Clearly is the leaker to WikiLeaks, clearly the family did hire the P.I., clearly all of this is a very legitimate murder investigation, and it’s very legitimate to look into it and question it. So they take his sponsors and internally they try to get rid of him. And the word is, they’re saying at Fox he’s gone. That may change. But I did get it from two high-level Fox folks that he was in the general counsel’s office a couple times last week and that they’re trying to push him out right now. Jones: Trump and Hannity have a “major bromance going on forever.” Jones said that at night, Trump “gets out the popcorn and turns on Sean Hannity” and that the two men have a “major bromance,” before praising Hannity for “talking about all the coup and murder-the-president info”:

He claims there’s a plan for [continuity of government] to overthrow -- he got it from Alex. And then they don’t show it was in Atlantic monthly. So he didn’t get it from me. This is going on.
