Last week, I pointed out that a “contest” -- really a sweepstakes -- Dick Morris was conducting on his web site might have been illegal. On May 5, Morris announced a random drawing, the winner of which would enjoy the pleasure of dinner with Morris at his home -- airfare and lodging included. Morris's announcement made clear that entry into the drawing required purchase of his latest book, which is where Morris may have broken the law: regulations on sweepstakes generally prohibit the requirement of an entry fee.
Well, if you go to the page announcing the sweepstakes, you now get a “page not found” error:
You clicked a link to http://www.dickmorris.com/blog/blog/2010/05/05/win-a-mothers-day-dinner-for-mom-with-dick-and-eileen-or-for-yourself-if-youre-a-mom/ and it doesn't exist. An administrator has been emailed about this problem, too. You can click back and try again or search for what you're looking for:
And that May 5 post announcement has been disappeared from Morris' archives, too:
Most interesting of all: If you search Morris's site for the phrase “Mother's Day,” you can find a page offering "Mother's Day Contest Refunds," with no explanation:
But it seems that page can only be accessed by searching Morris's site by keywords: It doesn't appear on the main page, and is not listed in the archives. So it seems you can get a refund if you paid to enter Morris's little scam -- but he's trying his best to hide that fact.
