Kilmeade: “The resignation letter is really a subtle insult, a shot across the bow of the president of the United States. Not one word of praise.”

BRIAN KILMEADE (CO-HOST): The timing of this and the contents of that letter is really an insult --

AINSLEY EARHARDT (CO-HOST): The resignation letter?

KILMEADE: The resignation letter is really a subtle insult, a shot across the bow of the president of the United States. Not one word of praise. Here's an example: “We must do everything possible to advance an international order that is more conducive to our security, prosperity and values, and we are strengthened in this effort by the solidarity of our alliances. Because you have the right to have a Secretary of Defense whose views are better aligned with yours on these and other subjects, I believe it is right for me to step down from my position.”

Key for this, the president -- the secretary of defense is not behind the rapid, unpredicted pull-out of our troops out of Syria, the draw down while in the middle of truce talks in Afghanistan, and I think it's also key that he brought up the need for respecting our alliances, are clear-eyed about the maligned actors and strategic competitors. As we pull back, he couldn't stand up.
