Discussing the role of private industry in causing the Gulf oil spill, Fox & Friends' Brian Kilmeade demonstrated a remarkable ability to turn on a dime -- or, more precisely, on party affiliation -- in one breath criticizing the Justice Department for announcing a criminal investigation into the causes of the Gulf oil spill and almost immediately pivoting to celebrate Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal's call to hold BP accountable. The DOJ investigation, according to Kilmeade, “just tank[ed] the market,” while Jindal was “taking action.”

Questioning the wisdom of Eric Holder's decision to launch a criminal investigation into the oil spill, Kilmeade complained:

The Department of Justice is probing, and for a myriad of reasons it looks like, into BP and what they have done and what they could have violated. Among the things that they're looking into: Did they violate the Clean Water Act, the Oil Pollution Act of 1990, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, and Endangered Species Act. All those things combined to drop BP's stock 15 percent and just tank the market.

Kilmeade went on to ask, “Was that smart?”

Oh, what a difference a few minutes make. During a subsequent discussion of Jindal, Kilmeade thought that accountability for BP was just swell, as it evidenced Jindal “taking action” and saying to BP, “you're going to be held accountable.”

If past is prologue at Fox News, the one thing Kilmeade won't have to worry about is professional accountability.
