Fox News' Peter Johnson Jr. -- he of the 9-11 beat poetry -- was back on Fox & Friends this morning lobbying for the passage of the 9-11 health care bill. This time the smooth jazz accompaniment was nowhere to be found, but Johnson did make a point to mildly rebuke Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) and the rest of the Republicans who have held up passage of the bill, saying: “I think they're making up excuses not to pass this important 9-11 legislation.”
That's fair enough, and a definite improvement over his previous masterpiece of obfuscation, in which he couldn't even say the word “Republican” when attacking the Senate for failing to pass the bill. But the chiding he gave Coburn and the Senate Republicans was nothing compared to the hammer-and-tongs ire he had in store for Comedy Central's Jon Stewart, who apparently committed the sin of agreeing with Peter Johnson Jr. that the bill should be passed.
Watch:
I get that this is an emotional issue for Johnson, but Jon Stewart is not the bad guy here. He supports passage of the bill. He's one of the few media figures who actually covered the legislation. And, in the end, he has no say over whether it actually passes or not. Coburn and the GOP Senate caucus, however, do have power over the bill's passage, and they've used that power to stall it. If not for them, Johnson wouldn't even be talking about this on Fox & Friends.
Seems like he should save the anger for those who actually, you know, deserve it.
