On the August 10 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends, the hosts reported on a group of students from the Young America's Foundation who began singing the national anthem on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial and were asked to stop, and move on by a security guard. Needless to say, this led to outrage on the part of the hosts and their guest, Fox News judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano:

Of course, despite their outrage, the incident had nothing to do with the national anthem. As a FoxNews.com article makes clear, the park asks all visitors to refrain from performances at the memorial in an attempt to “maintain a contemplative and reverent area for the Lincoln Memorial, for the other guests and visitors.” The Park Service maintains this policy “regardless of content.” From FoxNews.com:

U.S. Park Police confirmed that the students were in violation of federal law and their impromptu performance constituted a demonstration in an area that must remain “completely content neutral.”

“The area they were standing in and singing is an area that is restricted for this type of activity,” said Sgt. David Schlosser. “The United States Park Police is absolutely content-neutral when it comes to any sort of demonstrations in these areas.”
