Fox News continued its practice of airing photographs and videos of scantily-clad women or blurred images of nude women -- frequently with the skimpiest of news relevance -- during the March 22 broadcast of Fox & Friends First. As hosts Steve Doocy, Alisyn Camerota, and Andrew Napolitano discussed the March 18 arrest of a Kansas man who left his preschool-age son in his unlocked vehicle for approximately 30 minutes while he patronized a Tulsa, Oklahoma, strip club, the network aired more than a minute of uninterrupted stock footage of strip club performances.
Napolitano noted that the Kansas man had been charged with "encouraging a minor child to be in need of supervision" after the child wandered into the strip club looking for his father, then added, “I would say, contributing to the delinquency of a minor by allowing him to come in that strip club.” The footage that accompanied that part of the discussion depicted a stripper from the waist down, in mid-performance, wearing underwear that left little to the imagination. The March 22 Fox & Friends report aired at approximately 6:40 a.m. ET.
As Media Matters for America has previously noted, Fox News has, of late, been a treasure-trove for footage of pole-dancing actresses and adult film stars, Playboy and Victoria's Secret models, and other adult-oriented entertainers.
From the March 22 broadcast of Fox News' Fox & Friends First:
DOOCY: All right, let's talk a little bit about a fellow by the name of Christopher Killion. He's 31 years old. He's from my home state of Kansas. He's in a heap of trouble because on Saturday, he was in Tulsa, and he decided, “I know I'm supposed to be babysitting the little baby who is what” --
CAMEROTA: Three years old.
DOOCY: -- “three or four years old, but I'm going to leave the baby someplace while I go in to see some naked people.”
NAPOLITANO: Where did he leave the kid?
CAMEROTA: He left the kid in an unlocked car outside of the strip joint that was 20 feet away from a four-lane street; it was raining out; it was 45 degrees at the time. So, after about 20 minutes, who walks into the strip club, but a 3-year-old? He toddles in.
NAPOLITANO: So, the 3-year-old goes into the strip club and says, “Where's Daddy?”
DOOCY: Yeah.
CAMEROTA: Yeah.
NAPOLITANO: And of course the police are called, and the father is now charged with “encouraging a minor to be in need of supervision.” I would say, contributing to the delinquency of a minor by allowing him to come in that strip club.
DOOCY: You know what? The kid stayed in the unlocked car for about a half-an-hour because of one reason. The father said --
NAPOLITANO: Oh, yeah.
DOOCY: -- that he told him that monsters would eat him if he left the car. So, the kid stayed in the car for a half-an-hour and then he apparently decided --
CAMEROTA: Okay --
NAPOLITANO: And then went into the strip club looking for monsters.
CAMEROTA: Right, exactly, where he found some. Now, Judge, here's my question and I may need -- really need to know this. Is it illegal to leave your children --
NAPOLITANO: As opposed to the other questions you ask.
CAMEROTA: Yeah, exactly. This one is actually for personal use. Is it illegal to leave your children in, let's pretend it was a locked car?
NAPOLITANO: It would depend on the -- on the age of a child. A 3-year-old, absolutely it would be illegal. It would be -- it would impair the child's health. A 14-year-old, you can say, “Hey, sit in the back seat of the car while I do some grocery shopping.”
DOOCY: Yeah, just look at those stories where, on a hot day, when parents have left children.
CAMEROTA: Alright, that's horribly hazardous.
NAPOLITANO: Severe health problems, even death.
DOOCY: Exactly. And the father probably thought, “Yeah, it's not hot, it's” --
NAPOLITANO: Right.
CAMEROTA: Cold.
DOOCY: -- “chilly, I'm going inside to warm up with some strippers.”
CAMEROTA: Yeah.
DOOCY: Anyway, he's in big trouble.
