Fox News has once again proven that its “straight news” division is a myth.
Tonight, Fox “straight news” program Special Report aired a segment in which a panel interviewed Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain, who is currently facing allegations of sexual harassment. The panelists were Charles Krauthammer, a Fox News contributor and conservative columnist; Stephen Hayes, a senior writer for the conservative Weekly Standard; A.B. Stoddard, associate editor of the congressional newspaper The Hill; and Special Report host Bret Baier, who asked questions from viewers.
In other words, the panel consisted of the host of the “straight news” program, along with two conservatives, one journalist, and no progressives.
During a portion of the segment about the allegations against Cain, Krauthammer cited the sexual harassment charges against Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and asked Cain: “Do you think that race and being a strong black conservative has anything to do with the fact that you've been so charged. And if so, do you have any evidence to support that?” Cain responded: “I believe the answer is yes, but we do not have any evidence to support it.” Cain added that he believes there are some Democrats and liberals “who do not want to see me win the nomination, and there could be some people on the right who don't want to see me because I'm not the quote unquote establishment candidate.”
Krauthammer again asked Cain if “race ha[s] any part of” the sexual harassment charges. Cain answered: “Relative to the left, I believe that race is a bigger driving factor. I don't think it's a driving factor on the right. This is just based upon our speculation.” Watch:
With no progressives on the panel, there was no one present to challenge Cain on his claim about the left and race. Instead, Fox simply let Cain make his comment and then moved on.
Just more evidence that Fox's “straight news” programming is biased.
