This week, President Donald Trump gave a lie-filled State of the Union speech on Tuesday, and the next day, nearly all Republican senators -- with the exception of Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) -- voted to acquit him of charges that he abused power and obstructed Congress by withholding congressionally approved military aid to Ukraine in exchange for an investigation into Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son. Fox figures responded to both events by heaping praise on Trump and cheering his supposed week of winning, bringing the network’s sycophancy to a new level.
Here is just some of the most over-the-top commentary on Fox this week:
-
Fox & Friends guest Christopher Harris said that Trump’s presidency has been “probably three of the greatest years since maybe Jesus walked the Earth with his ministry.”
-
Fox & Friends guest Tony Perkins said that the National Prayer Breakfast is “going to be a great end to what’s turned out to be a great week for the president.” Co-host Ainsley Earhardt asked Perkins if “God is using” Trump. Perkins responded, “Without question.”
-
Fox host Laura Ingraham began her prime-time show The Ingraham Angle by praising Trump for “capp[ing] off a phenomenal week for the presidency and the American people” before listing off Trump’s apparent accomplishments. She concluded that it’s “largely because of these continued successes that President Trump has exposed the frauds on the left.”
-
In a monologue heaping praise on Trump, Fox host Sean Hannity said Trump “delivered the single best State of the Union address that I have ever seen.”
-
Fox Business host Lou Dobbs said that “Romney is going to be associated with Judas, Brutus, Benedict Arnold forever" because of his vote in Trump’s impeachment trial.
-
On America’s Newsroom, guest Josh Holmes said that Trump “should enjoy a victory lap here” because the impeachment trial was “one of the most ill-conceived events in the history of the legislative branch.”
-
On Tucker Carlson Tonight, Fox host Jeanine Pirro said that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) ripping up her copy of Trump’s speech is “akin to her ripping up the Constitution, American jurisprudence, everything that the president has done for the American people, from the economy, to school choice, to all of the things he talked about. She doesn’t care about any of that.”
-
On Fox & Friends, Fox contributor Michael Goodwin said that Democrats have “made this a war” while Trump “was willing to work with them on infrastructure, on immigration. … They were all in resistance mode.”
-
On Fox & Friends, Fox correspondent Kevin Corke began his segment by saying that it is “a lovely day indeed, especially for this president if you consider what he has been through over the last several months.”
-
When her guest criticized Romney’s vote, Fox Business host Trish Regan seemingly agreed, saying, “When it’s right versus wrong, you like to be on the right side of things. Very nice stuff. Big victory lap for the president and for Republicans today.”
