MARTHA MACCALLUM (ANCHOR): I want to ask you about this because, you know, if you designed a way to sort of ruin the United States, right, you'd go after the economy with this terrible virus that has killed so many people, you'd keep kids out of school, keep them uneducated for a year and a half at least, right? Then you get a vaccine. Then you make people — you mandate it and then you've got those same teachers and health care workers and the border patrol backing out of their jobs because they don't like — they don't want to be told what they have to do.
CHRIS CHRISTIE (FORMER NEW JERSEY GOVERNOR): Yep. Look, this is — the vaccine mandate and the problem with the vaccine issue goes all the way back to the campaign, you remember last year, when Kamala Harris said I won't take a vaccine that's approved by the Trump FDA. She put in people's minds that there was something political about the vaccine when there was never anything political about the vaccine. She started that craziness, and it's continued from here.
And now, instead of trying to convince people and have a huge public education campaign about how well-tested this is and how good it is in preventing this disease or minimizing it, instead they're saying you'll take it because we tell you so. Well, all that is going to do is harden opposition to it, Martha, and now it's creating all these other absolutely foreseeable consequences. Shortages — we already have labor shortages because of the crazy Biden extra pay to be unemployed and stay on your couch. And now you're kicking people out who want to work because they have doubts about the vaccine.
