On the June 15 edition of FOX News Channel's Special Report with Brit Hume, the network's chief political correspondent, Carl Cameron, noted that a line Senator John Kerry frequently uses on the campaign trial was written by award-winning Harlem Renaissance poet Langston Hughes, who, Cameron claimed, “often” attacked religion and God and made pro-communism remarks.

CAMERON: And to illustrate his optimism, he [Kerry] often quotes Langston Hughes, who often attacked religion and God and praised communism, but did pen this favorite Kerry line...

As Media Matters for America has previously noted, President George W. Bush praised Hughes as one of the writers “that inspire us” in a proclamation celebrating Black History Month in February 2001. And First Lady Laura Bush recited a Hughes poem at a 2002 White House event.
