After Fox & Friends co-host Steve Doocy claimed that Fox senior meteorologist Janice Dean was inside because of the weather, Dean reveals that she really is inside because “ad reps” are visiting the building. These ad reps should be fully aware of the disaster they are walking into.
Fox News is currently being sued by Dominion Voting Systems for defaming the company following the 2020 election. In recent weeks, filings and evidence from the lawsuit has been released to the public. Hundreds of exhibits and depositions reveal that from Rupert Murdoch to on-air talent to show producers, Fox employees knowingly lied to their audience about bogus claims of voter fraud. A leading advertising executive called the network “a moral hazard for advertisers.”
In fact, at the same time that Dean made her announcement about ad reps visiting Fox, Dominion's motion for summary judgment was being heard in a Delaware courtroom. And even if the judge in the case does not grant Dominion's motion, there is still a trial looming – one in which Dominion plans to call top Fox execs like Paul Ryan, Viet Dinh, Lachlan Murdoch, and Rupert Murdoch.
TV media, including Fox News, are now kicking off the 2023 upfronts season, during which they hope to sell a large portion of their advertising inventory for the upcoming calendar year. Advertising buyers should be aware of the extent to which Fox will sacrifice the truth in exchange for dangerous right-wing conspiracies, creating a major brand threat for their client companies.
