Do you really want to play that game, Beck?

Tonight on Fox, Glenn Beck suggested that it's a widespread belief among environmentalists that climate change skeptics should be executed. To support this claim, Beck asserted that Talking Points Memo “posted an article” that stated, “at what point do we jail or execute global warming deniers?”:

BECK: In June of last year, liberal blog site TPM posted an article and then quickly had to take it down when people started to protest, that read, quote, “at what point do we jail or execute global warming deniers?”

In fact, TPM did not post an “article” that said any such thing. As you may know, aside from its news and editorial operations, TPM hosts a blogging community that anyone can join. It was one of these reader-bloggers, named “The Insolent Braggart,” not a member of the TPM staff, that wrote the objectionable remarks. TPM subsequently took the post down and the reader who wrote it a-formal-r.php" title="blocked::http://tpmcafe.talkingpointsmemo.com/talk/blogs/c/r/crazedandconfused/2009/06/ashamed-of-myselfa-formal-r.php">apologized:

My original point was to combat what I considered an extreme (denying global warming) with another extreme (my ill conceived jailing and ... - well you know). A good writer would have found a better way to make their point without the threat of violence. I find the thought of being locked up for your views truly disgusting and disturbing as well. The whole post was ill conceived, poorly written - and not representative of who I am. But I did write it - and I take full responsibility for it. [original emphasis]

This post was linked to many conservative sites before Josh [Marshall, TPM Editor] could take it down, and I was even included as the subject of a Washington Examiner article.

In conclusion - I'd like to offer my thanks to Josh Marshall for the second chance he's given me. He had no reason to allow me to post here - and in fact it was probably in his best interests to suspend my account permanently. He gave me some advice that I truly value and will do my best to heed it. I promised to abide by the terms of service - and to think before I hit save.

Beck's website The Blaze, has plenty of commenters, some of which have pretty vile things to say. I'm sure Beck wouldn't mind if we pulled out the worst and held them up as representative of Beck's own beliefs?
