On his May 25 Fox News show, Glenn Beck went on a tear about “global governance,” kicking things off with a series of quotes -- from a progressive blogger referencing “paranoia about a global takeover,” from a 1997 statement by former United Nations official Gustave Speth, from the U.N.'s definition of “global governance,” and from a 1976 U.N. statement on private land ownership.
Interestingly, all of those quotes also appeared in a May 22 column by Henry Lamb. Lamb is the chairman of something called Sovereignty International, which “focuses on threats to national sovereignty in public policies, international treaties and agreements, and in educational and cultural trends.” He has also published a book called The Rise of Global Governance.
And then there are the two words that say so much about him: WorldNetDaily columnist. That's right -- Beck plucked his global governance research from the right-wing, birther-obsessed WND. (Then again, perhaps Beck was merely flattered by the opening of Lamb's column: “Hooray for Glenn Beck! Right out there in front of God and everybody, he talks about global governance as a real and present danger.”)
In addition to the “global governance” obsession, Beck and Lamb share other interests: hatred for Democrats in general and President Obama in particular, an obsession with Woodrow Wilson, and a propensity for finding communists and Marxists under every rock. Here's a sample of Lamb's WorldNetDaily stylings:
- “Philip Dru is a fictional character created by 'Colonel' Edward Mandell House. House was a political activist in Texas before becoming campaign manager for Woodrow Wilson. For eight years, House was Wilson's czar-in-chief and worked to fundamentally transform the United States of America into a government that operated like the government in his novel: 'Philip Dru: Administrator.' Barack Obama must have read that book, and loved it. His performance in office is quite similar to the performance of Philip Dru.” -- April 24
- “Despite the ridicule and denials that spew forth from the Democrats, the enactment of Obamacare is a victory for Marxism in the United States, recognized and publicly acknowledged by Al Sharpton. What Democrats have done is absolutely consistent with Marxism; the way it was done provides a course in this Marxist principle: The end justifies the means. Marxists, Socialists, Communists and Democrats have been trying for most of the century to advance a Marxist agenda. Woodrow Wilson implemented two major Marxist principles: the central bank and the income tax.” -- March 27
- “Americans who prefer Marxist, redistributionist, government-managed lives will continue to accept the loss of freedom and the decay of America. Americans who cherish freedom will continue to train their troops and attack at the primaries, in preparation for a full-scale rebellion on Nov. 2, 2010.” -- January 9
- “The similarity is remarkable, between the rise of the Democratic Socialist Party now in control of Washington and the rise of the National Socialist Workers Party of Germany in the 1930s. Led by an articulate orator, the German government set out to nationalize health care, transportation, manufacturing and law enforcement. The Obama government has set out to nationalize manufacturing of autos and the finance industry. The Obama-backed ”cap and trade" legislation will effectively nationalize the energy and transportation industries. And Obama's nationalized health care program is on the front burner." -- July 4, 2009
- “The eugenics movement, carried to its logical conclusion by Hitler, killed millions of innocent people. Global warming, when carried to its logical conclusion, will kill far more people than eugenics, and cause incomprehensible agony to people who desperately need affordable energy to survive and prosper.” -- December 27, 2008
- “The God to whom our founders prayed for guidance has been thrown overboard by the modern Democrat Party. For at least a generation, Karl Marx has provided both inspiration and guidance to the people who are now in control of America. Republicans have not just been out-maneuvered and out-campaigned; some Republicans have been willing participants, joining the Democrats in the worship of Marxist ideals. This Democrat tsunami is not only a defeat of Republicans; it is a defeat of freedom.” -- November 8, 2008
Lamb also freaked out about the Ready Reserve Corps provision in the health care reform bill, portraying it as “a new branch of service with its attendant bureaucracy and officer corps,” referring to Obama's previous comments about a “civilian security force,” and declaring that this was just another example of how “Obama has already expressed his contempt for the idea that the Constitution limits the power of the federal government.” In fact, as we've detailed, the Ready Reserve Corps has existed in some form for 200 years, and is nothing more than a reserve unit of health professionals who can be called up to assist in times of a national emergency.
With so much in common, somehow we suspect Beck will be lifting more stuff from Henry Lamb in the near future.
