Google, the search engine that always seems to do something unique with its homepage design, is using it to honor, of all things, PAC-MAN.
For those old enough to remember the video game with the gobbling yellow character, his dot-eating diet and his wide-eyed enemies, going to Google's home page today will allow them to play the game once again ... for free. Just wait a few moments after linking to the page, and the play will begin.
“PAC-MAN seems like a natural fit for the Google homepage,” says a post on the official Google blog. “They're both deceptively straightforward, carefully hiding their complexity under the hood. There's a light-hearted, human touch to both of them. And we can only hope you find using Google at least a quarter as enjoyable as eating dots and chasing ghosts. You know, without actually needing any quarters.”
The move is to honor PAC-MAN's 30th annivesary, according to the blog.
