Introducing Talk

Media Matters recently debuted a brand-new mediamatters.org. As a part of our website upgrade, we are also migrating to a new commenting platform: Talk.

Talk is an open-source commenting system designed for media and nonprofit organizations that puts in place additional measures to discourage abuse and enable productive conversation. Talk’s built-in features will allow Media Matters staff and our commenting community to reward respectful and relevant conversation, while better filtering out toxic responses that violate our rules and terms.

Part of our mission is to build a community where anyone can address and respond to the work we do. We want to create an atmosphere where everyone feels safe to join the conversation, and we believe Talk will help us foster a better environment for everyone.

To comment on the new mediamatters.org, you are required to register an account with Talk:

To sign up for a Talk account, click “Sign in to comment” at the bottom of any recent Media Matters piece. You will then be prompted to sign in or register. To register, click “Register” at the bottom of the screen and follow the instructions provided in the pop-up window to create a Talk account.

After registering an account, to sign in, input your existing Talk credentials after clicking the “Sign in to comment” dialogue. If you have trouble with the registration or sign-in process or with commenting, please contact us at moderator@mediamatters.org.

As we use Talk together, we’ll continue to fine-tune the platform to make it work at its best. We welcome your feedback and look forward to healthy conversations!
