“Stop the Steal” organizer Ali Alexander, discussing references to him at the July 12 hearing of the House select committee investigating the January 6 insurrection, said that he was “concerned that the Capitol won’t be safe for future GOP objections,” and that “when I want an election, we are going to take it” in a “free and fair way,” also saying that “a majority of the states in this union are GOP-controlled.”
Alexander’s remarks are possibly a reference to a situation in which no one receives a majority of the Electoral College votes — which could happen if members of Congress reject the results from certain states, as 147 congressional Republicans attempted to do on January 6, 2021— and the House of Representatives chooses the president. The winner would be whichever candidate receives a majority of the 50 state delegations, 26 of which are currently controlled by Republicans. Alexander’s remarks could also potentially refer to the Senate possibly approving “faux” electors from certain states, as attempted by some supporters of then-President Donald Trump following the 2020 presidential election. Alexander has previously suggested that he was personally involved with that effort.
