David Zurawik of The Baltimore Sun, among the most prominent media critics in newspapering, shot back at Dr. Laura Schlessinger for blaming others for her departure from radio.
Schlessinger, who announced last night that she would leave radio at the end of 2010, has been criticized since clips of her using the 'N' word in a tirade against a woman calling in for marital advice were posted at Media Matters.
In her announcement, she claimed her First Amendment rights have been limited.
Zurawik's response:
The media climate today is indeed contentious, rude and even often even ugly, but don't buy Schlessinger's “poor me” nonsense for one second. She is the mainstream media, and she embodied some of its worst impulses for decades -- and made piles of money off it. For her to try and paint herself as a victim of today's media and political climate is outrageous.
He concludes by stating to her: ... don't blame the media for what you did to yourself.
