On the July 21 broadcast of his daily radio show, right-wing radio host Neal Boortz referred to former member of the U.S. House of Representatives (and current candidate) Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) as “the cutest little Islamic jihadist in Congress.”
From a conversation between Boortz and guest Jamie Dupree, a Cox Radio Washington correspondent, on the July 21 broadcast of The Neal Boortz Show:
BOORTZ: Is the Congress ready for the return of Cynthia McKinney, the cutest little Islamic jihadist in Congress?
DUPREE: I dunno, we've had wackier people, so ...
BOORTZ: Oh yeah, name one?
DUPREE: Uh, Jim Traficant.
BOORTZ: Oh no he wasn't, no, he may have been wacky but he wasn't dangerous.
On July 20, McKinney won the Democratic primary for Georgia's fourth congressional district, as The Atlanta Journal-Constitution noted (free registration required). McKinney was defeated in a 2002 primary by Representative Denise Majette (D-GA), who is running for Georgia's open Senate seat.
Writing in a June 2003 article for AlterNet.org, Greg Palast, author of the New York Times bestseller The Best Democracy Money Can Buy, revealed the media's distortions of McKinney's statements on the Bush administration's handling of pre-September 11 intelligence.
