Colorado Media Matters Launched!

Dear Colorado Supporter:

Since May 2004, Media Matters for America has posted roughly 5,000 items correcting conservative misinformation in the national media. Our fact-based research and activism has held the media accountable, instilled higher standards, and forwarded the search for truth. Now, we need your support as we come to Colorado.

While our work at the national level continues, an important fact remains: Many Americans get their news from local sources. We have long considered how our national model could be adapted to meet the unique challenges and opportunities presented at the state level. Because of the overwhelming support our organization has enjoyed in Colorado over the last two years, we are poised to combat conservative misinformation for the first time in a statewide news market.

This week, we are launching Colorado Media Matters (colorado.mediamatters.org). It will replicate in your state our proven methods of monitoring and analyzing media reports every day and correcting conservative misinformation in real time. We will keep a watchful eye on Colorado media -- newspapers, television, radio, and the Internet. Like Media Matters for America, Colorado Media Matters will use our website, colorado.mediamatters.org, to distribute our research and analysis. Because we believe that having local leadership is critical to the success of Colorado Media Matters, the project will be managed and staffed locally by Coloradans.

Since the launch of Media Matters for America, the growing, dynamic progressive community in Colorado has been very responsive to us, following our work and taking action. Our own Jamison Foser and Paul Waldman spread the word in regular appearances on the Jay Marvin show (760 AM) at 9 a.m. each Tuesday.

We hope you will find Colorado Media Matters as vital to a healthy democracy as is Media Matters for America. We aim to challenge local media every day to do their best to serve the citizens of your state. And when they don't, we ask you to join with us in letting them know it.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely yours,
