After stating on the August 21 broadcast of Fox News Radio 600 KCOL's Ride Home with The James Gang that “Newark, New Jersey, does not believe in giving the right of the people to bear arms in their own defense,” guest co-host Jesse Herron asserted, "[Y]ou have a city that would rather see a woman strangled to death and being gang-raped in an alley, strangled with her own panty hose, than it is to give her a firearm with which to defend herself against those who would do her harm."

Herron was discussing the recent slayings of three college students in Newark, New Jersey, and U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo's (R-CO) call for the victims' families to sue the city for negligence. Tancredo said “the city's lax immigration policy is at least partially to blame for the execution-style slayings,” according to the Rocky Mountain News.

HERRON: They want us, they want to treat the symptoms of this case rather than the actual cause of it. And, it's -- you're gonna get it from both sides. You're gonna get it from the Democrats and you're gonna get it from the Republicans, and nobody wants to address the real issue that's, that this is facing. What is really causing the problems -- and, you know, you're going to continue to have different types of programs and problems, and it's never going to go away until you get to the base core of the real problem here. But -- I'm actually gonna go back and want to re-address this: Tom Tancredo urging the victims to sue the, the families of the victims, to sue the New York, Newark, over the policy that it's a sanctuary city. I also want them to go back and sue them over the policy that Newark, New Jersey, does not believe in giving the right of the people to bear arms in their own defense. You have -- well, it's not only -- you have a state, you have a city that would rather see a woman strangled to death and being gang-raped in an alley, strangled with her own panty hose, than it is to give her a firearm with which to defend herself against those who would do her harm. Newark, New Jersey, has some of the most toughest and most stringent gun laws in this country. Despite, ladies and gentleman -- despite the fact that guns, gun ownership, and the right to carry in this country at all-time highs. However, violent crime is at a 30-year low. Coincidence? No, it's not. You see it every time it happens that the people of Newark don't have the right to defend themselves. Their people, the, the city of Newark, will not, will not allow them, and that's, that's where it will not recognize that Second Amendment right to defend themselves. So he needs to tack on something else there besides being a sanctuary city where they don't even question a person's legality. It's, it's, it's -- you know, again, you're not getting down to the basis. You want to play with the, the, the issues on the surface, but you don't want to get down to the core problem here.
