Most Daily News Cabbies Pass Test

The New York Daily News did something more papers should try, checking out how local businesses treat customers.

In this case, the famous New York City cab drivers. Apparently, most passed the test.

Daily News reporter Christina Boyle, posing as a tourist with a British accent, took a series of cab rides, jumping into taxis at one corner and asking for a ride a block away. In most cases, the driver either told her it was close enough to walk or drove her straight there.

A few did not, taking routes up to 20 blocks out of the way.

“Hacks have had it rough since the Taxi & Limousine Commission last month accused 35,000 drivers of ripping off customers by setting their meters to a higher rate - only to later admit most had done it accidentally,” she wrote, explaining what prompted the test..
