The Society of Professional Journalists offers a real discussion starter with its “20 Journalists To Follow.” This is apparently based on their work via Twitter, Facebook and other social media. Meaning news people in the know, ahead of the game and online enough to keep you well-informed via the keyboard.

Their group ranges from Monica Guzman of Seattlepi.com, a true online animal, to Jay Rosen of New York University, whose musings often get attention.

“Of course, there is a nearly bottomless pool of people out there, and we tried to pick a good sampling,” SPJers write. “What we don't have in print is bottomless space, and we unfortunately couldn't involve absolutely everybody who should be here.
