Now at what point does the president of the United States have an obligation to defend innocent Americans whose city governments refuse to defend them? You may remember, in the 60s, the government sent the FBI into Mississippi when civil rights workers were being killed and it was clear that the local police would not hunt down who killed them. And so -- and because they were Americans, they deserve protection.
