As the People for the American Way weblog Right Wing Watch has noted, on October 4, the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights issued a press release titled “Mark Foley Plays the Catholic Card,” which quoted Catholic League president William A. Donohue suggesting that 15-year-old boys who are the victims of sexual abuse are to blame for the abuse they suffer. Responding to the recent statement by the attorney of former Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) that Foley “was molested between the ages of 13 and 15 by a clergyman,” Donohue, addressing Foley in the press release, asked: "[W]hy didn't you just smack the clergyman in the face? After all, most 15-year-old teenage boys wouldn't allow themselves to be molested. So why did you?"
According to the Catholic League website, communications director Kiera McCaffrey is scheduled to appear on the October 4 edition of CNBC's The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch. As Media Matters for America has documented, Donohue has been a frequent guest on MSNBC and has also appeared on several other cable and network news programs. In light of Donohue's remarks about the Foley scandal, will Donohue continue to be?
