On the August 4 edition of his nationally syndicated radio show, Neal Boortz responded to a Media Matters for America item that documented his August 3 remarks describing adult minimum-wage earners as “incompetent,” “ignorant,” “stupid,” “worthless,” and “pathetic,” by again smearing them. Before referring to Media Matters as “some left-wing, Democrat website” and citing Media Matters' reader comments, Boortz said of minimum-wage earners, “If you are a grown adult in this country who is not suffering from some hideous physical or mental disability, and you are trying to raise children on the minimum wage, then you are a 100 percent pure unadulterated loser. ... I am so sick and damned tired of all those left-wing bedwetters and sympathy pimps out there ... just moaning over these people who have squandered their American birthright by becoming just the dregs of socie[ty].”

Boortz then read aloud from a number of Media Matters' reader comments -- which he also posted on his website -- including ones that depicted him as "[j]ust another soulless conservative" and a “classless piece of crap,” and others that stated, Boortz's “listeners are probably unemployed alcoholics,” and for Boortz to “go f yourself!” Boortz introduced the Media Matters' reader comments by stating: “these are comments that are made about me -- your sweet, lovable radio talk show host.”

Boortz also said of Media Matters: “They're posting my remarks all the time. I love it.” According to Boortz, “the real danger here is when they stop posting my remarks, when they stop paying attention to me. Because then I have something to worry about. As long as I'm getting on their nerves, I know I'm doing something right.” Boortz concluded: “I love reading [my] comments [on the Media Matters website]. ... [M]ore and more people are coming to the show because of it.”

BOORTZ: Yesterday, for about the umpteenth time in my mediocre talk radio career, I let my feelings be known on the issue of the minimum wage -- especially on the issue of sympathy for grown adults trying to raise families on the minimum wage. In short, I have none. You should have no problem understanding my position. If you are a grown adult in this country who is not suffering from some hideous physical or mental disability, and you are trying to raise children on the minimum wage, then you are a 100 percent pure unadulterated loser. And I am so sick and damned tired of all those left-wing bedwetters and sympathy pimps out there -- passing -- just moaning over these people who have squandered their American birthright by becoming just the dregs of socie[ty]-- and then -- I'm just so sick of it I could scream. At any rate, some left-wing, Democrat website yesterday posted my remarks. They're posting my remarks all the time. I love it. I tell you what. The -- the real danger here is when they stop posting my remarks, when they stop paying attention to me. Because then I have something to worry about. As long as I'm getting on their nerves, I know I'm doing something right.

So, they posted my remarks about the minimum-wage losers, and I posted some of those remarks on the Nuze today for you to read. I thought you might like to read some of the comments, maybe you'd like to hear them. These are about me. These are comments that are made about me -- your sweet, lovable, radio talk show host. And when two wonderful people like [producer] Belinda [Skelton] and [talk radio host] Royal [Marshall] will tolerate me and adore me as they do, for these people -- listen, here are some of the comments about Neal: “Just another soulless conservative who believes poor people are morally inferior to the rest of us.” Another one: “Careful Neal. Most of your listeners are probably unemployed alcoholics who aren't even making the minimum wage. Keep talking like this and they may turn you off and start lookin' at TV or beatin' the dog or the old ball and chain.”

SKELTON: I don't think so.

BOORTZ: Yeah, right. Another one. “Even more important ... How many people does Boortz employ at only the minimum wage? Or even just $6 an hour? At the very least, surely some of his staff members must have held a minimum wage job at one point in his life. And what about interns who earn nothing? Are they even more incompetent and ignorant?” Yeah. And then another one -- this was about phone screeners, Belinda. It says here: “They don't do well. From what I hear, up here in Philadelphia, average phone screener gets $8-$10 an hour on larger stations. Producers, depending on their contracts, won't make that much more per hour if they are not on-the-air talent as well. Again, this is just hearsay.”

SKELTON: Yep, that's hearsay.

BOORTZ: Yeah, that's -- another one: “Boortz is a classless piece of crap. These ”worthless" minimum wage earners are the backbone of the American economy" -- yeah. That's -- yeah. We all know that the people who earn the minimum wage are the backbone of our economy. Anybody that thinks that, why don't you go out and get a job from somebody who earns the minimum wage. Says the people, “these minimum-wage earners are the backbone of the American economy and are the people who clean bathrooms, make the fast food rich conservatives pick up in their SUVs, stock grocery shelves, pick tomatoes that end up in your burrito at Taco Bell, etc, etc. There will always be a demand for such positions that will pay the minimum wage, and yet Boortz has the audacity to label these necessary workers as ”worthless" and “trash”? I have worked two minimum jobs -- wage jobs and do not appreciate being denigrated by a punk, out of touch, fat, white male with a microphone. Boortz, you can go f yourself!" Well, there was another nice comment. Then one more: “How sad. These people are to have” -- mm, that's (unintelligible) -- “these people are to have such hatred and contempt for the weakest among us. Boortz is the antithesis of everything decent about a human being; he truly embraces his darkness.” Hoo-ha. Please, please, please keep posting my comments on that website. I love reading the comments, and you're -- more and more people are coming to the show because of it.
