Following a night of Republican National Convention speeches from former New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani and Senator John McCain (R-AZ), among others, an August 31 editorial in the Rupert Murdoch-owned New York Post stated: "[I]t was to the nation's great loss that the broadcast networks chose not to show last night's principal events."
The Post had a different take after networks went “dark” during a night of Democratic National Convention speeches from Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA), keynote speaker and Illinois Senate candidate Barack Obama, former Vermont governor Howard Dean, Senator Tom Daschle (D-SD), and Teresa Heinz Kerry, wife of Senator John Kerry. From the newspaper's July 28 editorial page:
In case you didn't get enough class warfare and War-on-Terror revisionism at the Democratic convention on opening night, last evening's bash-fest should have more than made up for it.
