The March 3 front pages of both The New York Times and The Washington Post featured stories about the Supreme Court's oral arguments during Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt, one of the most important cases on reproductive rights in over two decades.
However, both papers illustrated their front page stories with images that didn't convey the full scope of advocates who demonstrated on the steps of the Supreme Court that day. Instead they chose close-up images of just a small portion of individuals, leaving their readers short of the full picture of the scene. The Post story reported that “hundreds of activists” were outside the Supreme Court on March 2.
Compare those photos to images posted on Twitter that provided a more complete view of the advocates on the steps of the Supreme Court:
Like the many advocates who took photos more representative of the scene, The Hill also managed to accurately convey the magnitude of reproductive rights supporters.
