Last week I noted how unfortunate it was that lots of mainstream news organizations, including the NYT, when reporting on the findings of an internal Army investigation into gross mismanagement at Arlington Cemetery had ignored the dogged work Salon's Mark Benjamin who had owned the unfolding story for a year, posting scoop after scoop.
To its credit, the Times's media writer, David Carr, today published an article about Benjamin's work:
Mainstream media outlets flocked to the story, many of them failing to credit Mr. Benjamin's reporting, but the dam had broken. Criminal charges could be in the offing, Congress is investigating and the rest of the cemetery will now be examined for other errors.
