Newsmax host falsely suggests Tim Walz lied about his dog

On Monday, prominent conservative media personalities were peddling a conspiracy theory about Democratic vice presidential nominee Gov. Tim Walz's dog Scout.

On June 15, 2022, Walz posted a picture of him and Scout and wished the dog a happy birthday.

On October 22, 2022, Walz posted a picture of himself petting a different dog and a caption reading “Couldn't think of a better way to spend a beautiful fall day than at the dog park. I know Scout enjoyed it.”

Conservative media personalities claimed that Walz has been lying about Scout's identity. In reality, Walz posted a video to Instagram on the same day — October 22, 2022 — showing Scout playing with other dogs, including the pictured dog, at a park.

Newsmax echoed the conspiracy theory on Monday night during Rob Schmitt's prime-time show and then again Tuesday morning during Wake Up America.

ROB SCHMITT (HOST): Tim Walz exaggerates and lies about everything in his fairly mediocre life. It gets weirder, though. There's a tweet out there posted on X where he wished his dog Scout a happy birthday. But then, just a few months later, somebody discovered another tweet about another dog named Scout, except it's a totally different dog. So which one's Scout? The campaign had no answer for us.
