Newsmax Using National Security Fears To Push Radios, Subscriptions?

Newsmax is never subtle in its attempts to push subscriptions and make would-be readers latch on to them for most any reason possible.

Its latest pitch is no different.

Declaring a “Homeland Securty ALERT,” the conservative publication is urging readers to get the free radio it promises with a four-issue free offer.

It's online promotion states:

America's homeland security, your family's, is essential. That's why Homeland Security* has advised all Americans that every home needs an emergency radio, in the event of hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, electric power outages, and even terrorist attacks.

Be Prepared in Any Circumstance!

The ad then goes on to promise a free radio if you sign up for its free four-issue offer, which becomes a full year's subscription unless you contact them to stop it, along with its Franklin Prosperity Report, which also renews for a year unless they are contacted.

It ends by noting:

*This offer from Newsmax and this radio are not approved or endorsed by the Department of Homeland Security or the federal government.
