On the January 28 broadcast of KNUS 710 AM's Backbone Radio, host John Andrews directly addressed “the Media Matters people” by saying, “Get a life.” Andrews added, "[Y]ou leftists that are paid to listen to this show -- I have to say, I hope ... that it is a grind for you. I hope that you're not enjoying it."
Introducing Backbone Radio assistant and former Heritage Foundation analyst Krista Kafer during the broadcast, Andrews commented on her “striking” faux “leopard-skin ... coat.” In response, Kafer joked, “I'd love to wear an endangered species, but I guess we're just going to have to go with the faux-leopard coat.” Later, Kafer revisited her joke, saying, “I'm feeling a little bit of trepidation here. Do you think those Media Matters people are going to go after my comment about endangered species?” Andrews responded, “I'll tell you what I think about the Media Matters people. And hello out there, Media Matters people. Get a life.” Andrews also speculated that “we may convert you leftists out there who are monitoring us” and that "Media Matters has also assigned individual harassers to you and to me ... to get after us for our blogs on BackboneAmerica.net."
In fact, Colorado Media Matters has not monitored or published an item about BackboneAmerica.net. Colorado Media Matters has, however, identified at least 10 other instances of false or misleading information dispensed by Andrews or his guests on Backbone Radio since August 30, 2006.
From the January 28 broadcast of KNUS 710 AM's Backbone Radio:
ANDREWS: And helped out as well by our friend Krista Kafer, once again sporting that striking leopardlike -- but, we're informed, not real -- leopard-skin --
KAFER: It's faux.
JOSHUA SHARF [Backbone assistant and blogger]: That's too bad.
ANDREWS: -- coat.
KAFER: I know, I'd love to wear an endangered species, but I guess we're just going to have to go with the faux-leopard coat.
[...]
KAFER: Can I ask you a quick question, John?
ANDREWS: Well, of course you can, Miss Kafer.
KAFER: I'm feeling a little bit of trepidation here. Do you think those Media Matters people are going to go after my comment about endangered species? Do I need to say right here and now that I don't condone the wearing of endangered species? And that all of my furs are faux?
SHARF: Are leopards endangered?
KAFER: Huh?
SHARF: Are leopards endangered?
KAFER: Probably.
ANDREWS: I'll tell you what I think about the Media Matters people. And hello out there, Media Matters people. Get a life.
KAFER: It's good to have some fans.
ANDREWS: If you leftists that are paid to listen to this show -- I have to say, I hope that --
KAFER: I'm flattered.
ANDREWS: -- that it is a grind for you. I hope that you're not enjoying it. But, then again, we may convert you leftists out there who are monitoring us for that Soros-affiliated Media Matters organization. And, by the way, Krista, I think that Media Matters has also assigned individual harassers to you and to me --
KAFER: I know.
ANDREWS: -- to get after us for our blogs on BackboneAmerica.net.
KAFER: I'm flattered. I'm so flattered.
ANDREWS: This is not accidental that -- that these people are --
KAFER: I know.
ANDREWS: -- are getting their teeth in our ankles --
KAFER: It's awesome.
ANDREWS: -- and coming after us.
KAFER: It's like we have our own private Cindy Sheehan. It's -- what could be better? It's like having your own, like, stalker. I love it.
