During a February 6 rant about several 2008 Democratic presidential hopefuls, Newsradio 850 KOA host “Gunny” Bob Newman claimed that New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson “remains in favor of amnesty for illegal aliens and favors an open border because he is Hispanic.”
In addition to his smear of Richardson, Newman also repeated the falsehood that U.S. Sen. Barack Obama (IL) is “still being dogged by a little real estate scandal in Chicago with indicted ... all-around-bad-guy Tony Rezko.” As Colorado Media Matters noted in November 2006, when Newman first made this claim, Obama was not accused of any wrongdoing related to a land purchase in Illinois.
From the February 6 broadcast of Newsradio 850 KOA's The Gunny Bob Show:
NEWMAN: But, you know, the last thing that the socialist, progressive liberals want is for me to keep exposing their 18-point agenda for what they call their new America. So, naturally, I will keep doing that no matter how much hate email they send me. Oh, and my email address is GunnyBob@850koa.com for those of you who want to send your hate mail and intolerance in my direction. And for the rest of you, as well. So to bring you up to speed: Hillary still refuses to retract her threat of seizing corporate profits if she becomes president. John Edwards is promising he will raise taxes to pay for socialized medicine. Barack Obama still being dogged by a little real estate scandal in Chicago with indicted, indicted all-around-bad-guy Tony Rezko -- his buddy Tony Rezko. I mean, just the name alone: “Hey, hey, I'm Tony Rezko.” Oh, OK. See, he says that we should retreat from Iraq. Bill Richardson, governor of New Mexico, remains in favor of amnesty for illegal aliens and favors an open border because he is Hispanic.
