Discussing Imus controversy, Horowitz told Boyles: "[T]he Left is a racist force"

During a guest appearance on the April 13 broadcast of 630 KHOW-AM's The Peter Boyles Show, right-wing activist David Horowitz called U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) “a McCarthyite,” claimed that liberals are “Stalinists” and “communists,” and asserted that “the Left is a racist force” in the United States.

Horowitz and host Peter Boyles were discussing the recent firing of talk radio personality Don Imus, who on the April 4 broadcast of his show called the Rutgers University women's basketball team “nappy-headed hos.” According to Horowitz, "[T]he campaign of the Left now is to drive conservative talk radio off the air." Responding to Boyles' question, "[D]oes this have its roots when Mrs. Clinton started talking about hate radio?" Horowitz replied, “Yeah, Mrs. Clinton is a McCarthyite.” Later, Horowitz contended that the United States is a “racist country” with “racist laws which say that if you're black or Native American or Hispanic you can have 200 points lower on the SATs and get into college, you can get the job that a more qualified white person can't get.” Horowitz added, “If you are a black and you cut your wife's head off, we'll let you go because America is a racist country. This is the country we live in now.”

As Colorado Media Matters has noted, on the January 7 broadcast of KNUS 710 AM's Backbone Radio, hosted by former Republican Colorado Senate president John Andrews, Horowitz similarly engaged in a series of personal smears, racially inflammatory comments, and outlandish accusations, including that the accuser in the Duke lacrosse team rape case is “black, so she's a protected species for leftists and liberals.”

From the April 13 broadcast of 630 KHOW-AM's The Peter Boyles Show:

HOROWITZ: This is a terrible day, especially for talk radio show hosts --

BOYLES: Well, I, I -- honest to God.

HOROWITZ: -- in America.

BOYLES: I've asked this question. Or I've made this statement: This is not about Imus.

HOROWITZ: No, it's about the campaign of the Left now is to drive conservative talk radio off the air.

BOYLES: I agree with you. This -- does this have its roots when Mrs. Clinton started talking about hate radio?

HOROWITZ: Yeah, Mrs. Clinton is a McCarthyite.

BOYLES: I know.

HOROWITZ: It started with her vast, right-wing conspiracy.

BOYLES: You know, I brought up Joseph McCarthy this morning. God, thank you.

HOROWITZ: They have totally demonized -- I was on the Roseanne Barr show yesterday, and just to listen to them. Of course, they want to go after Rush Limbaugh --

BOYLES: Sure.

HOROWITZ: -- after Sean Hannity.

BOYLES: I got a list.

HOROWITZ: Al Sharpton has already raised the stakes by saying, you know, we want everybody --

BOYLES: Yeah.

HOROWITZ: -- everybody who's a sexist off the air.

BOYLES: Here's -- let me read --

HOROWITZ: In other words, everybody's who isn't a leftist --

BOYLES: Yeah, yeah.

HOROWITZ: -- or that doesn't toe the left-wing line.

BOYLES: Here's -- here's Sharpton this morning: “It is our feeling that this is only the beginning.” We have a bro -- “We must have a broad discussion on what's being permitted and not permitted in terms of the airwaves.”

HOROWITZ: He's, he's -- look. Don't ever call these people liberals. They're Stalinists, they're communists --

BOYLES: Thank you.

HOROWITZ: -- they're totalitarians.

BOYLES: Thank you.

HOROWITZ: They cannot stand another voice in the room.

BOYLES: Thank you.

HOROWITZ: The only reason there are two voices on television is because conservatives created a channel --

BOYLES: Fox.

HOROWITZ: -- and included liberals, because conservatives are actually liberal people.

BOYLES: What's --

HOROWITZ: It's, it's liberals who are -- they're socialist, they're leftist, they're intolerant. And that's because they think they're on a mission from God almost.

BOYLES: Do you see -- do you see Jackson and others forming like this ad hoc UAC [Un-American Activities Committee] committee to go after people?

HOROWITZ: Well, I think that it's worse than that because --

BOYLES: I do too.

HOROWITZ: -- the Democratic Party now controls Congress --

BOYLES: I know, my God.

HOROWITZ: -- and if Bush didn't have the veto power --

[...]

HOROWITZ: But the Left is a racist force. We are a racist country. We have racist laws which say that if you're black or Native American or Hispanic you can have 200 points lower on the SATs and get into college, you can get the job that a more qualified white person can't get. If you are a black and you cut your wife's head off, we'll let you go because America is a racist country. This is the country we live in now. If, if Sharpton and Jackson were white people, they would be buried. Instead they're burying other people.

BOYLES: What's, what's fascinating to me is -- knowing what I know about both of those men -- how do they get to be the guy who, the men who set the bar on what's decent?

HOROWITZ: Well, because --

BOYLES: I mean, who pay -- why --

HOROWITZ: -- the left-wing America, which controls -- you know, we're, we're talking about big figures now.

BOYLES: Sure.

HOROWITZ: You know, we're talking about Katie Couric --

BOYLES: Yeah.

HOROWITZ: -- and Oprah Winfrey. We're talking about The New York Times and The Washington Post. We're talking about the university system, which is all run by the Left. They validate these people.

BOYLES: But don't they understand that the bell tolls for themselves?

HOROWITZ: No.
