Discussing the 2008 presidential election during the October 21 broadcast of KNUS 710 AM's political talk show Backbone Radio, co-host Joshua Sharf stated, “I know the names of three” candidates seeking the presidency, adding, “I don't even know who's running anymore.” Host John Andrews described Sharf's lack of awareness about the campaign as “rational ignorance” and told him: “You've got better things to devote your brain cells to.”
From the October 21 broadcast of KNUS 710 AM's Backbone Radio:
ANDREWS: Question two, presidential politics: Kansas Republican U.S. Senator Sam Brownback folded his campaign for president this week.
MATT DUNN (co-host): Was he running?
ANDREWS: Name the next Republican and the next Democrat to bail out of the race. The next Democrat, the next Republican to quit. Sharf?
SHARF: Oy -- I don't even know who, you know, I know the names of three. I don't even know who's running anymore. I don't, I don't even -- I couldn't begin to tell ya.
ANDREWS: Hmm -- that's called rational ignorance. Good job.
SHARF: I don't know.
ANDREWS: You've got better things to devote your brain cells to. Good man.
DUNN: I think you might actually see McCain fold somewhat near term. He is so low in the polls, and he just has no enthusiasm and no money that I think as Republicans go, why not have McCain be next?
