Right-wing media mourned Rep. John Boehner's (R-OH) re-election to a third term as House Speaker by comparing his opponents to the American revolutionaries, the hero David from the biblical story of David and Goliath, and lobbing accusations of election rigging.

Boehner Wins Re-Election As House Speaker. Despite facing opposition from conservative members of his caucus, John Boehner (R-OH) won re-election to a third term as Speaker of the House on January 6. According to The New York Times, “Not long after trying to topple Mr. Boehner in Tuesday's opening session of the House, 12 of the 25 Republican members who cast their votes for someone else still lined up to have their ceremonial swearing-in photo taken with Mr. Boehner.” [The New York Times, 1/7/15]

Mark Levin Compares Boehner's Failed Opponents To American Revolution Patriots. On the January 6 edition of Premiere Radio Networks' The Mark Levin Show, Levin lamented the news that Boehner was re-elected as Speaker of the House and consoled Boehner's opponents by comparing them to the leaders of the American Revolution:
LEVIN: I think about what happened today on the floor of the House and so forth, it really crystallizes things for me and I hope for you now. I think about all those great patriots, all those great patriots who risked everything for freedom. Who risked everything so their progeny could live better than they do. Laura Ingraham Applauds Conservatives Who Voted Against Boehner As “A Bunch Of Davids” Who Fought “Goliath.” On the January 7 edition of Courtside Entertainment Group's The Laura Ingraham Show, host Laura Ingraham applauded the “honor roll of those who had the courage to oppose Boehner,” and compared them to the hero David from the biblical story David and Goliath, saying “They're a bunch of Davids” who took on the establishment “Goliath”:
INGRAHAM: It's not just a symbolic vote or a symbolic position you take. It inspires the folks out there who say, 'look, at least my guy is with me.' He's up against Goliath. The establishment is Goliath. They're a bunch of Davids. Got their slingshots, maybe you don't hit the giant this time, but giant had to expend some energy to try to defeat you.
