The ad has already prompted one criticism, from the alternative weekly Creative Loafing's Scott Henry, who wrote:
I'd recently heard that the AJC's new marching orders from its Cox overlords call for the paper to tailor its editorial coverage to appeal more to political conservatives. More on that soon. What hadn't occurred to me is that the paper's marketing department would jump off the deep end."
Contacted by Media Matters for comment about the ad, Laura Inman of the AJC marketing department sent the following e-mail:
It is a regular practice of the AJC marketing department to send discount offers, unique contests and event opportunities to our subscribers. The cultural and entertainment events that we extend have nothing to do with our news coverage.
