Having spent his years in office echoing Fox News talking points, Trump is picking up where he left off – echoing extremist talking points from his most loyal supporters at Fox News.
Outside a polling location in New Hampshire on January 23, Donald Trump cited Fox News host Sean Hannity and told reporters he is “100% certain that there will be some horrible acts, terror acts” due to the Biden administration’s immigration policy — a baseless claim Hannity had promoted just the day prior.
Less than 24 hours earlier, Hannity hosted the former president on his radio show, where the host lamented he is “100% certain” that “the chaos that Joe Biden has created on the border” has led to “terror cells in our country plotting, planning, scheming.” Trump agreed that Hannity was “100%” correct.
Hannity again mentioned his misgivings on the January 23 edition of his radio show and noted that Trump had cited him earlier in the day. This time, however, Hannity suggested that the country would face “another 9/11 or worse, you know, an October 7 or worse — it will happen,” and warned the Biden administration “will have blood on their hands.”
Hannity’s predictions are not based on evidence, but instead serve to stoke a growing anti-immigrant backlash from right-wing media as Trump and his MAGA allies try to permanently kill a bipartisan deal about border policies ahead of the 2024 election.
